Absolutely fantastic train station. Changed so much since I last visited. It was so easy to navigate. So much easier than Southern Cross Station.
A beautiful building which houses not only the terminus for many trains, but many restaurants and strangely the sky City Casino. It has taken over a large section of the original building and is linked to a new larger building. Adelaide does these transition links between old and new buildings very well and this is no exception. There is a well designed underground link directly into the station from the Riverside Walk and in the station there are artworks displayed.
This train station is a great spot to go catch a train! Really beautiful interior, also saw some cool art peices nearby. Can fully recommend to transport enthusiasts!
The architecture of the station is magnificent. There is a small coffee spot in the hall. The coffee fragrance can attract visitors who pass by there.
The public transport 'gateway' to South Australia.nTrains run to Gawler north Outer Harbour west Belair south/east and Seaford south.nTrain services operate on a 'Metrocard'. This can be purchased and funds added to, at a Metrocard ATM with many locations throughout the area.nnWalk through the station to the end heading north and you will come out at the riverbank of the Torrens River.nThere is an amazingly large bridge you can walk to cross over or head to the lawn area and take in the views.nAlso at the end of this walk through you will find an entrance to the Adelaide Festival Centre and an entrance to Sky City Casino which is only open for special events.nnThere is an Historical display, very interesting with a map from 1915 showing the railway line for South Australia.nnPublic amenities are available at the bottom of the stairs, next to a Kiosk.nWheelchair access is available.nnYou can exit the Train station via underground walkway next to the stairs /escalator that will take you to North Terrace. There is also a long, steep walkway directly opposite the platforms exit, that will take you to the left of North Terrace heading towards State Library and Museum.
