Aaron Collins builders Ltd have provided a complete building service to us including design and build of a new house and the build of a huge American style workshop. The most recent project was a complete re roof and re insulation of a 1970's built 2500 sq ft farmhouse. They have also capably carried out many similar projects throughout our district and further afield. Any work has been well coordinated and carried out efficiently and pleasantly. The pricing has always been fair and reasonable, ideas for cost savings have been provided.Services: Flooring
Aaron built our house in 2019. Aaron and his crew were great to work with. Their work quality was top notch but what set him apart for us was how good he was at communicating with us. He was also very flexible and willing to work with us on changes and issues I had created. I'd be happy to recommend Aaron to anyone thinking about building.
In February 2019 we asked a number of builders in the Taupo/Turangi/Taumarunui area for quotes to build an 8m x 8m extension to our Pukawa house. The extension was not straightforward as it involved a garage/bedroom/laundry/toilet/covered deck/steps and balustrade/retaining walls being built on poles in steep terrain. Of the five builders initially interested, only two builders would provide quotes. We chose Aaron because he provided a detailed itemised fixed price quote, communicated promptly with clarity and had excellent references from previous clients. By May, Aaron and his team of builders had started work, and as it progressed a number of changes to the design were readily accepted and undertaken by him with ease and minimal extra cost. Despite working during winter conditions the building work proceeded well and was substantially completed by September 2019. We were particularly impressed with Aaron's communication skills, craftsmanship, knowledge and understanding, willingness to please and quality of work. We unreservedly recommend Aaron as a highly qualified builder who will deliver building projects to a high standard, on time and to budget.
My wife searched the Taupo/Turangi area for a builder to undertake an extension to our home. We considered it to be a relatively straightforward build, as in effect it was a covered patio with some extra refinements and with flow through from the interior. It was architecturally designed with our most important requirement being that it did not look like an ‘add-on’. We could not find a builder in our area who was interested or were told it would be at least 12 months before they could look at it. So my wife searched further afield and eventually found Aaron Collins Builders Ltd at Taumarunui. Rather than waste further time on sending out more plans and specifications we decided to ask Aaron to visit our home, show him the plans and briefly discuss if he would be interested in the project and for us to ‘sum up’ our impression of him and if we could work together. Our first impression was positive as an agreed time was made for Aaron to visit and he arrived spot on time. A good start and that is how the further communications continued. He was invited to quote for the work. We had previously received a tender price from a Taupo builder, but the quoted price was ridiculous to which the architect also agreed. At this time we had the Building Consent but couldn’t proceed with the project as a Resource Consent was required. We held back on this as the District Council was reviewing the Flood Zone Area and based on its consultants report, was expected to change the zoning, meaning a Resource Consent would not be necessary. This was explained to Aaron and a programme was agreed allowing sufficient time for the zoning to be changed. Alas, this was not the case and so the project was set back a couple more times until the following April when the zoning was eventually removed allowing work to commence. Unfortunately, we were to travel overseas for 3 months at the end of April, so again the project as delayed and a commencement agreed for late July 2019. The above background is necessary in my review as it formed the basis of our relationship and the willingness of Aaron Collins Builders Ltd to go the extra mile. Aaron was on the site for most of the construction period but Jossan, one of his staff, was there for the duration. Like any project there are always unforeseen aspects which the builder cannot foresee or where the plans do not really offer a practical solution. These were always discussed with us and suggestions made, rather than going off and doing their own thing. So, as in the beginning, the communication was excellent. Aaron also contracted and co-ordinated the sub trades which included electrical, plumbing, drainage, structural steel fabrication/welding and painting which also ran smoothly. The two builders worked as a team and were a pleasure to have working at our home and were always courteous even though the may have thought me to be a nuisance at times. The end result was actually better than I had hoped particularly given the variations from the plans. We now can comfortably sit outside in the summer months without having to look for a shady area elsewhere or having to retreat indoors. In summary we consider we paid a very fair price for a very good end result, made easy by the ability of Aaron Collins Builders Ltd to communicate and work with us.
