I’m pretty fortunate to have this supermarket up the road from me in a small town. It’s reasonably small but there’ll always be a car park watch out for old people backing out and not checking!. Are the shelves always stocked? No. Can I always get what I need? Also no. But again, small local supermarket, I’ll survive! I like there’s always staff around and with the new addition of lots of self checkouts, you’re rarely waiting for long. The staff are always friendly regardless of time of day. The trolleys are always replenished and available and I’ve not experienced a dodgy wheel yet. My only bugbear and I know it’s a controversial one, but there always seems to be a charity for something right by the door. I really don’t want to keep being pulled into a cause that I politely decline and then feel bad when I walk out with a bottle of wine or something. It also grinds on me that when the charity people are young males, they’re ogling the college girls going past.
Absolutely no comparison between this shop and Waikanae New World. Three staff watched me pack shopping back into trolly after sour faced staff lady scanned items today,i go occasionally for 'specials'.nNew World staff smile chat and pack without hesitation.
Very rude staff served me, grabbing my stuff and giving me a dirty look. I’m with my toddler and I felt humiliated. Went immediately to raise a complaint. That’s why New World is better, you are feel welcomed no matter where you came from.
My wife and my son today in countdown, around 11am to buy some stuffs, she was so upset because of the kind of service she received. one Kiwi staff just to specify, was very rude to them, served them with You- Dont Belong Here attitude. she raised a complaint with one of the staff and wrote it in the receipt and gave it to one of them. countdown, you can do better. if you’re staff will be so racist, you will lose customers.
My previous review of this store was damning, one star. The place was awful, terrible service, decaying food etc etc.nFast forward 3 years and after deleting said review there appears to be a marked improvement. Fresher looking fruit and vegetables, no more broken down fridges and freezers, self checkouts to alleviate pressure on endless queues.nThere still remains the most uninspired deli counter in the history of deli counters, where raw meat can sometimes be seen alongside cooked meat.nThe meat, in what may be called the butchery department, looks grim, severely vacuum packed or gassed, often of Australian origin. The fish similarly grim, severely vacuum packed, all processed in Greymouth I believe.nThe aisles seem wider and are less choked with products.nIf only they could remove the disingenuous smiling and confident charity muggers from the front of the store.
