We originally instructed By-Design to build a conservatory £35k and paid a large deposit but before any materials were ordered we decided to open up the back of the house and have sliding doors installed 4.2 metre span. They originally quoted £25k for opening up the back of the house and install the sliding doors. We felt this was ridiculously high and they then eventually dropped to £15k which included £1k commission to Rob, the salesman. As By-Design refused to refund our deposit we had no choice but to go ahead with them. The doors were installed in July 2021 and since then we had nothing but problems. The doors wouldn’t lock properly and had to call them out on numerous occasions. One night they left us with one of the doors unlocked because they couldn’t fix it that day. The double glazed glass was dirty on the inside of the double glazing By-Design blamed this on the glass manufacturer and this was replaced but again we had the same dirty glass problem. Then the autumn drew in and we started to notice condensation at the bottom of the aluminum frames not glass so we had to lay towels down every evening to soak up the excess water. I had to call up another installer for advice because By-Design said it was normal for aluminum frames to suffer from condensation it isn’t. The other installer asked whether the foundation had been prepared and sealed properly with an adequate DPM but it had not. After some back and forth with By-Design they agreed to remove the whole frame and doors and replace the glass for a third time. This did not solve the condensation or door locking problem. In January 2022 we commissioned a report from RISA who amongst many things recommended the foundation should be rectified as the doors were tilting inwards and new frame and doors installed. By-Design did not agree with the report and commissioned their own report from Fenestrology which was finally published the middle of June 2022. It more or less mirrored the RISA report. By-Design offered to make the rectifications stated in both reports but as we were going through a Section 75 claim which was recently successful we thankfully didn’t have to have By-Design return to create yet more problems. By-Design may be able to install windows but they have neither wherewithal or expertise to install sliding doors of this size. The installer did not even read the installation instructions properly which was probably why the doors were always doomed to fail – I had to point things out to him at a later date. At no point in this past year and a half of hell did the owner of By-Design apologise for any of the faults. Having spoken with other local window companies when we were looking to replace the doors they said they heard By-Design had a poor reputation in the business. By-Design clearly cut corners to make huge profits out of hardworking honest people and should be avoided at all costs. By-Design have responded saying the Section 75 claim was unsuccessful - this is untrue. We used the Section 75 money to replace the doors by Shard Solutions of Caterham. They installed a far superior product back in September 2022 Origin Artisan slider OS-20 and made good the foundation upon which the doors sat and installed a new DPC. We have had no condensation issues whatsoever since these doors have been installed and the doors lock and slide back and forth like a dream as they were installed to a far higher standard than By-Design could ever achieve.
We replaced four windows with the By-Design double glazed windows during last Summer. Two were of a standard designs but the other two needed to be made specially. We found the service very friendly and unobtrusive, and the fitting of the windows efficient and not in the least troublesome; the men cleaned up very well afterwards. We would certainly use this company again in the future. Moreover their prices were lower than the firm we used to have other work done on different windows, and very much cheaper than some firms have quoted for the windows we replaced

I thought I needed a new front and back door. Dehane visited and talked me through my options, helping me realise the back door was perfectly serviceable but the old fashioned glass could be replaced and save me a fortune! So I was delighted to save a few quid for the same result. The door quality was fab, the installation chaps very professional. I only rung them because I couldn’t be bothered to listen to the big national suppliers sales cobblers. I had a set of French Doors fit a few weeks earlier by them and the sales process was painfully long to get down to a fair price. Totally different here. They give me a fair price for a quality job. No messing about. I have zero hesitation recommending this firm and will use them again if need be in future.
We had 3 windows and the porch put in and all was top quality.
I have used By Design on many occasions and both Dehane and Ben have always provided an excellent service. Could not recommend them highly enough.
By-Design fitted 5 windows and patio door with complete efficiency and high standards. Very pleased with the result.
