Whitestone City is a Victorian Heritage centre where you can explore the rich history of Oamaru and all of it's characters. It is interactive and fun!

Fit-out in the style of a colonial town, where activities, displays, merchants and an array of people in costume provide a glimpse of what this Oamaru street would have been like in the town’s early days.

The BEST hands on , interactive museum we've been to in NZ. Superb. Our grandsons couldn't believe they were encouraged to play with items. A very cool place. Allow an hour ...and be generous with your chosen 'per head' fee on exit . The carousel was stunning & the historic reel, fabulous.. We'll be backVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Great collection of classical buildings built here with local limestone now restored and forming the heart of Oamaru with interesting varied shops and eateries.
Love this place! The huge bicycles are so cool. We had a wonderful time in it. All these old items are interesting and beautiful.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Better than the highly promoted steampunk exhibit. Staff were incredible, and we enjoyed visiting the Victorian past. Loved that we could touch things and even enjoyed a ride on a carousel. Visit it, you won't be disappointed ... and pay what you like at the end. How cool is that?Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Super interesting glimpse into old New Zealand, filled with new life. One of the most impressive places during our stay. The entire downtown and harbor areas are beautiful
It's a small place that used to be a grain and seed storage room but you will fun have here if you enjoy seeing Victorian objects. It's an interactive museum so you can touch absolutely everything. They have a barber shop, a grocery shop, newspaper office, doctor's place, a carousel and the old train tracks so that you can imagine how the train got inside the place to refill it's wagons with seeds. For an extra, you can dress up in Victorian costumes and take some fun memory pics.
If you love Victorian era, as much as I do, you're gonna love this museum. The ladies behind the counter are soo kind and helpful. You can even pay lil extra and walk around in the costume! Definitely worth the money!

This place is a real gem! The volunteers who run it now post-COVID are friendly and knowledgeable about the city. There are heaps of Victorian era games. It's a great mix of interesting information and fun experiences. Definitely check it out.
