Quarry gardens? Really? That's what I thought as well. But, wow, what a stunning experience this was! From artistic sculptures to indigenous plants and trees and exotic beauties, its all here. And best of all, you can do the whole garden in under a hour with easy walkways and clearly identified paths. The Echo tunnels were a nice surprise too! We did not get to see a real Kiwi aww! but maybe next time. Lovely cafe on site and pay for entrance by means of gold coin admission. Or just be a jerk and don't donate...
This place is "heaven"! Gorgeous gardens all year round with a lake, shady spots, gorgeous sculptures, beautiful flowers and plants, and a wonderful cafe opened from Wednesdays through Sunday. It is the complete package! This place is not to be missed! The gardens have been a community project created and maintained by volunteers for over 30 years! Sinply delightful for all ages!
This was a lovely day out with family, and I’d really strongly recommend it to anyone with the time. Started the morning off at the Quail cafe, enjoying stunning coffee, and a range of food options including great Vegan options. From there, we meandered through to begin a pre-booked Golf Cart tour with Nancy, who was a wonderfully friendly and hospitable tour guide. The cart is a great idea, and enables those with limited mobility to get up and enjoy the entirety of the gardens.
Short walk to a small waterfall. Very nice flora and fauna all around with hiking trails depending if you are adventurous enough. Just a small donation to enter the quarry. Umbrellas are free to borrow during your walk. Good experience and worth a visit! Coffee at the cafe were also great.
Beautiful. Unique plants, lush surrounds. Several walking tracks, including up high around the waterfalls. Maps provided return on exit, Cafe on site is very good. A gem for naturalists.
A beautiful haven of well planned gardens situated in an old quarry. Well worth a visit for a breath of fresh air if travelling.
What a wicked idea it was to have a public garden located here. Beautiful gardens in a wonderful location. Take the time and take a visit. Gold coin donation entry.
Small garden and short walk but good variety of flowers to see. Small entry fee of a gold coin. Good if you're passing through and have a few minutes 10-15 mins to spare.
Beautiful garden! Warm welcome and a very pleasant wander through exquisite flora. Cafe is great as well.
Embarrassing to admit but I lived in Whangarei for the first 21 years of my life and never went here. Finally popped in and was suitably impressed. An old quarry had been turned into a an amazing area to walk and explore. Huge Fig trees like I've never seen before, a man made lake, walks and paths all over, and parts of the old quarry are integrated in the planting. There is a lovely cafe onsite too. Take a hat and walking shoes and lose yourself for a while!
