I was surprised how close the falls are to everything in the town. They are located in a really wonderful park right in the middle of it. There are many different trails around them, some were a bit muddy from all of the recent rain, but there were alternatives that were not. It is a quick walk from the parking lot to the main falls. But there are many routes around it to get a good hike in still. Stunning and very accessible.
Must Stop in Whangarei. If you local or passing through. Quick 20-30 min loop track will take you to the base of the Whangarei water falls. Not too steep walk. Cruising. Great lunch, picnic spot with public toilets, picnic benches etc.
A must stop in Whangarei! Carpark and public toilets, then checkout the waterfall from the viewing platform. Take a 5 minute stroll down to the bottom to get the full view of the waterfall. Plenty of picnic tables throughout to use. The walkway is mainly stairs, but it is an easy walk. Swimming is not recommended

A-MA-ZING! Easy walk to the fall, a few tables and space for a picnic, a path that transports you to a peaceful place enclosed by trees and butterflies. it is a swimmable place but be cautious and respect it’s magnitude. If you’re unsure, follow the locals - don’t adventure by yourself.
A beautiful waterfall about a 5 minute walk from the free car park. Can easily spend a couple of hours here with a picnic. Unfortunately swimming isn't advised which is a shame because it looks like the perfect spot for a dip!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo wait
Easy reachable, nice parking at the top. Also a toilet there. And a viewing platform. Can cross over a bridge/path to other side and there is another viewing platform. Possible to go down too. Wouldn’t say it’s huuge, but considering that it’s in the middle of the city it quite big! And can see rainbows too.
Always spectacular! A must when in Whangarei. Especially after the rain this falls is just beautiful. Few car parks and a toilet, a short 5-8min walk down and plenty of picnic tables.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Stunning waterfalls especially after a period of heavy rain. Great walkway around the Whangarei Falls allows to have a picture-perfect views from all sides of the falls. Easy to walk from the close by carpark. Not over-crowded even on weekends.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo wait
Like Rainbow Falls a bit farther north, this is a stunning classic freefall that is extremely easy to access. Located just a few minutes outside of the town center of Whangarei, the 76-meter waterfall is simply breathtaking. A large parking area with toilets is provided , and a perfect view from the left side is only steps away. You can cross a footbridge just meters above the brink be careful!, then a well-groomed foot path takes you to an upper side view and then more steeply down to a footbridge with a perfect frontal view. Paths continue along the river quite muddy during our visit as well as along the cliffs above. There is no entry fee. This is a gorgeous place and there is no charge to see it. Highly recommended!
