Whangārei Art Museum stands out among New Zealand’s museums not because of what’s inside, but because of its striking architecture — the building itself is a real attention-grabber. Even if you don’t step inside, it’s already a solid spot for people who love a quick “photo-stop” style visit.nnInside, they often host themed exhibitions and events, and most of them require a ticket. Just a heads-up: due to the building’s design, some of the walkways and ramps aren’t completely flat, which might not be the most friendly layout for visitors with mobility issues.nnWhangārei doesn’t have a huge list of big-name attractions, so if you’re planning to spend a bit more time in the city, this place is definitely worth adding as one of your stops.
Very small and quite dull. It's next to other attractions, so it's easy to pop into. Kids were building with foam. I don't really recommend. However the exhibitions change so it depends on your taste and the current artist being showcased whether you'll enjoy it.
Took our tamariki to the foam blocks and chalk room at the art museum. We were regular visitors every weekend. Our whanau always had a lovely time until our most recent visit where we were racially profiled. We were stopped on our way in, our tamariki told to calm down they werent being loud or disruptive, just being kids once in the blocks we were told off multiple times by the two older women staff. There were other children in the room being loud, reckless etc but no other whanau were talked to..just our tamariki māori.. we were constantly harassed during this visit.. my husband whom is an artist would quite often leave beautiful artworks on the chalk walls at staff requests.. it was once one of our favorite places to visit as a whanau.nIm so disappointed.nI dont recommend this place.
Wow! What an amazing venue! An absolute must see if you are visiting Whangerai! This building is beautiful and interesting.
A wonderful colourful building dedicated to one artist, with some additional works and a lovely cafe and shop.
