The Whakatane Hotel is a delightful character pub in the centre of the city. I thoroughly enjoyed the three nights I spent there. The building is old but gracious, but the room I was in, while quiet and peaceful, could do with a huge revamp. There were no working power outlets near the bed. The only working one was over five feet from the ground beside the TV. The bathroom was adequate but dreadfully small. The food was fantastic and the bar service was very good. The staff need to be aware of telling guests where and what facilities are available. Sadly the kitchen and gorgeous lounge were unavailable to guests after 10pm, a shame as I am a night owl and was unable to make a hot drink. The kitchen also needs more regular servicing, and my room was not serviced with clean towels at all. Still, a really great place to stay and would definitely stay there again.
I have never in my whole existence of going to accomodations dealt with such an unhelpful lady in reception. after driving 6 hours from palmerston north, we were told they can't leave a key for our room. we arrived literally half an hour late and we're told on the phone we couldn't even sleep on couches as a compromise. She felt it appropriate rather to drive 30 mins here and call the police. this establishment deserves no ones hard earned money, and the lady on reception should reconsider a different line of work that doesn't involve human interaction.
I have been a happy stayer here, when I went to check in, I felt unwelcomed and judged by the staff member with the glasses. I had mentioned I had been here before but she talked to me like I was stupid. I felt very judged and won’t be staying here again, I’m actually leaving couple hours after checking in. Shocking!
When I called to book I expressly asked for quiet, they should have told me that would never happen here.nAsked for an ensuite, was told I'd have an joining bathroom, didn't happen, when I saw the sign upon arrival that I could be kept awake till 3am on Friday night I said maybe I should find another place, didn't discuss it just charged me for the two nights and said, milk tea and coffee are supplied in the communal kitchen, but as it turns out you have to supply your own milk. Total twat!nWent to have a shower no light in one bathroom, no hot water, the tap only dribbles.nCleaners still cleaning at 8pm slamming doors etc worst place I have ever stayed in!
Had lunch with grandkids food was good but brought to much asked for takeout food containers the young lad was lovely said we could have them but the lady said $1 each after spending $80.00 penny pinches not to mention noisy screaming kids no control staff need to a dress these issues
