Wow...what a treat of a night away with my partner. We arrived to a beautiful curated cocktail in this historical hotel. I felt like I was Mary in Downtown Abbey. Our bedroom was a quaint little warm and cozy encave with romantic lighting and a tv to sit and enjoy a movie. There was ample hot water to enjoy a relaxing shower ready for the night ahead. We were able to enjoy a bottle of wine together on the sunkissed balcony overlooking the township. Beautiful. It is a reasonably priced establishment for what it is....true luxury right in the heart of whakatane. My recommendations would be to put in a spa pool on the amazing deck to truly show the beauty of this fine hotel
let’s start with the only good thing, the bed was clean and comfortable and that’s it.nwe stayed there 4 nights me and two other friends, the room was super dirty, it had mold on the floors, towels and also in showers and bathrooms on the shower head!!!. The kitchen was probably the worst part with dirt everywhere, food scraps and dirty dishes everywhere, the stove wasn’t working and took 25 minutes to start to cook the meat. for all the four days in the oven was a pan with exploded food in it plus it was brown. The average public bathroom is cleaner than the one that was in this hotel. overall stink everywhere and fear to get sick.
I sat in the pub tonyte on a Saturday and it was 8pm. A couple walked in and asked 4 a room and the lady behind the bar looked at her manager and the manager said, NO, rooms. They left and then the manager said, y do peplele come in late at nyte and order a room. I looked on Booking.com and I went thru and ordered a room.
Drinks were good and atmosphere was good too. Didn't eat there so can't comment on the food
The Whakatane Hotel is a delightful character pub in the centre of the city. I thoroughly enjoyed the three nights I spent there. The building is old but gracious, but the room I was in, while quiet and peaceful, could do with a huge revamp. There were no working power outlets near the bed. The only working one was over five feet from the ground beside the TV. The bathroom was adequate but dreadfully small. The food was fantastic and the bar service was very good. The staff need to be aware of telling guests where and what facilities are available. Sadly the kitchen and gorgeous lounge were unavailable to guests after 10pm, a shame as I am a night owl and was unable to make a hot drink. The kitchen also needs more regular servicing, and my room was not serviced with clean towels at all. Still, a really great place to stay and would definitely stay there again.
