Our dad, Kahu Stirling, spent 5 days in the Medical Ward, initially in Room 19, then in his own space in Room 27. The nurses were so beautiful. They were kind and respectful with dad - always smiling and friendly. They treated him like he was a treasure. We were so blessed. Dr Shai was amazing. He was very caring and very thorough in his treatment of dad and also when explaining to us what the processes were and the treatment plan, moving forward. The OT who came to see dad, on our morning of discharge, was a different story. She didn't smile, she didn't display kindness or friendliness or any interest in dad, as a patient or a person, at all. She was there to do a job and that was that. Maybe she should spend time with the nurses to learn what showing caring and sensitivity to whanau and patients looks like.nnOn another note, the food was amazing and not what I expected. You hear about hospital food being terrible, but not at Whakatane hospital. In all the time we were there, the food was always at such a high standard, tasty and delicious. On top of that, the caregiver meal you supplied was top notch as well.nnWe left there with a new knowledge of what to do better to keep our dad healthy. We thought we were doing a good job, but we missed so much because we didn't know then what we know now.nnSo thank you, Whakatane Hospital and staff of the Medical Ward. You are the best, in our eyes, and we are so grateful.
Recently I had to have a procedure under G.A at this hospital. All the staff were warm, kind, caring, thoughtful and had amazing bedside manner. The team were all positive, calm, and caring and gave off such a relaxed yet professional vibe that it provided a really safe space to relax and embrace the experience. Excellent work team. Grateful for all your support and care. Highly recommend A+++
I was recently an in patient in Whakatane Hospital surgical ward. The care I received in ED and on the ward was exemplary.nI was seen quickly in ED and admitted quickly without fuss. All the staff were helpful, friendly and professional.
Wow the nurses who did my CT scan were so lovely I was nervous they explained everything they were so lovely put me at ease I wish I had got their names they really need to be rewarded for the efforts!.even the reception guy was great!.
