At Whakamarama Kindergarten, we provide an exciting learning environment which recognises and responds to each child’s individual interests.
Whakamarama Kindergarten is not only a fun playful environment, we provide wonderful opportunities for group social learning, artistic expression and exploration of our world. We also have a strong teaching philosophy brought together with the whole learning community to support an amazing learning programme. Our kindergarten’s natural environment and frequent bush walks add to our children's knowledge and representation of the natural world around them. This shines through our children’s art work, literacy, and play. Experiences with the natural world are seen to inform our caring behaviour. Literacy is an exploration of the senses at kindergarten. We love stories, drawing, and writing our letters. We use Letterland as a guideline within our learning programme. We adopted many story and legend characters’ like Rata, the Gingerbread man, and the Lorax, as mascot’s of Whakamarama and Districts Kindergarten. Like the Lorax says "Unless people like you care a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, its not" Dr Seuss. Children at our Kindergarten learn important foundation skills to become life long curious learners. We learn to think about new possibilities and creative solutions to life's challenges. Working in partnership; parents/whānau, children, teachers, our community.
