The Westland District Library is located in Hokitika, West Coast of the South Island . We cover the Westland District Area which is Otira right down as far as Haast. We have 8 community libraries in the district which are located in Kumara, Ross, Harihari, Whataroa, Franz Josef, Fox Glacier, Okarito and Haast. We have 5 computers available with free internet and free WIFI if you have your own wireless device.

Chairs for reading are plenty, as are the desks and power points on the upper level. Bean bags provided at the young adult section. They loan jigsaws for 6 weeks at just $1 including use for within the library - what a fantastic idea and if I were staying here I would definitely go for it!
Unlimited wifi was decent and worked well for video calls and general working. Plenty of space to charge devices and desks to work from. Library is not a quiet library like all libraries in NZ it seems, so they're cool for you to take calls in the general area.
Always a pleasure to visit, friendly staff and being out of town it's easy to go online and reserve a book, when the book is available an email will be sent, also reminder notice is emailed to let you know when your book is due to be returned,,take a visit you won't be disappointed, plenty of carparking outside
What a lovely library. Such friendly and welcoming staff and an excellent selection of graphic novels for kids and adults. So many activities for the kids too.
While the services offered at this library are on par with all of the other librarys in NZ that I've visited, the user-friendliness is not. The staff are unable or perhaps unwilling to assist simple tasks such as extending internet usage time on an otherwise very slow day with no one in the library. They insist on using the automated prompts for internet session renewal, which do not work properly !, because they do not always offer the renewal feature. This leads to lost work, and many unnecessary visits to the library main desk - which wastes everyone time, and the same dull response "wait for the automated prompt" is given every time. Also, this library is entirely unique in NZ in it's printing charges. All other libraries having visited over a dozen in NZ that I have visited are $0.20 per page, this library being special charges $0.30 per page. Perhaps the library is underfunded, which leads to color printing chargest of $2.60 per page all other libraries visited are $1.00 per color page. Very strange. Also, because there is little respect for the environment Trees - this is a general comment about NZ libraries - double sided printing is the same cost as single sided. Presumably because paper has no value. GO figure?
Great library that has always got a high turnover of books so the collection that is always up to date and constantly changing. Jigsaws, movies for rent and small area of coloring or craft for the kids round our this library.
Didnt actually go inside the library but we just needed to use Wi-Fi. They have Wi-Fi here available 24/7 and can be connected sat outside, there is seating too! Fantastic facility just for the Wi-Fi so we could plan and get organised. Brilliant!

Love that place staff are always very helpful, love the atmosphere in the library......they certainly know there way around a computer.
