Fish and Chips are a family staple and is typically a weekly treat. I grew up with a fantastic local which was always good.nWhat makes good? I can say it is not price or quantity, it is quality.nClean oil at the correct temperaturenChips cooked for the correct time.nFish batter: correct consistency. Not too thick and cooked through.nDrain: Important to allow all excess oil to drain before packaging. If in doubt, shake and wait some more.nHot dogs: battered in-house.nBurgers: Full iceberg lettuce leaves, beef patty and balanced ingredients. Bun light toasted. Built up in typical order. Bun, sauce, onion, patty, cheese, egg, lettuce, tomato, mayo, bun. Loosely speaking. Basically don't put the patty on top of the lettuce!!nnKnowing these expectations and being so fortunate growing up they are big shoes to fill, so easy to miss the high expectations.nnImagine though that week to week it is always a miss. Maybe I am wrong and this is just how they are meant to be??nSoggy undercooked chipsnUncooked fish batter and dripping in greasenBurger that has shredded limp lettuce in the sauce under the patty with way too much mayo and just not pleasing.nCheap pre packaged undercooked hot dogs, even the kids were disappointed!!nnService was good though.nnQuestion is, do I now just drive all the way to Hornby to get takeaways now? Guess so, as based on the last few attempts at a hit there has been only misses. A real shame as was hoping the local would provide my kids the same weekly treat I enjoyed.nnI posted this so anyone with high expectations lowers them.nnI doubt I will risk it again.
Delicious meal! Fresh bartered blue cod and amazingly well cooked chippies, all the food our table had was delicious and they served a table of 6 all at the same time. Our server was great, personable and accommodating and the bar staff was great too. Great price for what you're getting, $30 for two big filets of blue cod and a great side of chips skipped the salad
Have been coming here for a while now and the food is great. Good price for the quality as well. Definitely would recommend!!
Friday night catch up with a few friends. Busy older country style bar &/or restaurant. Nothing flash but accommodates for all including family meals at an affordable price
