West Coast Wildlife Centre

About

The West Coast Wildlife Centre is open from 8am daily and offers the most amazing interactive tours to see New Zealand’s rarest Kiwi - the Rowi.

Story

The Westcoast Wildlife Centre is a public/private partnership with the Department of Constervation. It is the official home to the incubation and captive rearing program for New Zealands most endangered kiwi - the Rowi and Haast Tokoeka. The Westcoast Wildlife Centre not only provides specialist husbandry care to help save the Rowi and Haast Tokoeka from extinction, but also offers visitors with an educational experience looking at the fight for kiwi survival. The experience also includes a chance to see Rowi in a natural, forest, walk-through setting, together with a guided tour through the incubation and rearing facility.

I loved this place. Got to see some Kiwis and Tuatara fantastic back pass tour. Thank you so much
A must see ! It completely blew away my expectations. So much to see and learn. We loved it.
Really enjoyed the back stage tours of the kiwi rearing facility and the tuatara enclosure. Staff were very accommodating to re schedule tours due to public holiday and our early arrival.
Excellent set up. Such a good work done to save the Kiwi. The two kiwi on display are so cute. And their tuatara. Definitely worth going in.
Wonderful family day out. We did the VIP tour which was excellent and we were fortunate to see Kiwi chicks and Tuataras up close. Staff were excellent with fantastic knowledge. Great centre, well worth a visit.
Highly recommend!! Fab way to support Kiwi hatching programme and learn so much
