Thank you to Hazel at the reception desk this morning for her fast and efficient handling of my 10 day visiting pass. Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre has great facilities the spas were all nice and hot along with the hot saunas this morning perfect heat for winter clean and tidy facilities 10/10
There is an issue with bullying in the hydro pool that is known to staff but nothing is done about it. If you are a vulnerable or disabled adult you might not feel safe. Might get pushed around, yelled at or humiliated by very entitled older persons while the staff watch and agree that it’s bad but tell you there isn’t a policy against it.
The facilities are great but the pool is the dirtiest I've ever seen. Covered in green slime all along all the walls of the pool inside and out and starting blocks. You can't push of without slipping. And the bottom of the pool is covered in broken objects and dirt. I was worried about getting sick the whole time. Would be great to see it cleaned up and back to it's precious condition
Took my toddler for her first swim in the toddler pool and we both came home with gastro. Never in my years of going to swimming pools have I gotten sick from going swimming. Absolutely wild and disgusting. Have heard from a few people saying the same when they took their toddler there and by the 3rd time they didn't get it. Since when is that normalised having to get it a couple times to not get it again. Gross.
It has a few different pools for different functions, national games are usually held in the large pool including water polo, kayak polo and so on. They also offer swim classes for kids and adults. There's a sauna and spa too. The baby pool is separated from the toddler and kids pool. Ample carpark at the back with a smaller carpark at the front entrance. It is located right next to the library.
