Stunning bush through an exploded volcano. Rich in bird life. Has caves and an awesome lake with a small rowing boat on it. Well built shelter for lunch breaks and relaxing. The waterfall is beautiful The owners have toiled to make boardwalks, bridges, stairs etc which only enhances this beautiful area. A must-do for all!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
The Falls are on private property and cost $10 per adult and $5 per child. The office staff will give you a map to guide your walk, and you can borrow walking sticks to assist you. There isn't any information posted about the nature of the walk - the altitude gain approx 200 metres or the length of the track 2-3km other than in the guide. It will take about 2 hours. The walk up to the lookout is steep and quite muddy in places. It is slippery as much of the path is clay as well. The views out to the east are stunning, but you've earned them. The Washpen Falls are on the way down from the lookout and are lovely. There are several pools but the water is very cool. You walk through three different gorges with stunning views and plants.
Beautiful walkway! There is so much to see as you walk through forests and around hills. Few cool caves. When you pay, the friendly people at reception give you an info sheet with markers to find along the way. Great wee lake with a waterfall that you can swim in, but it's breathtakingly cold! Good spot for having lunch. I wouldn't say its an easy walk as some parts are steep and you need to be aware of your footing but it's definitely manageable. Loved it!
A popular absolutely beautiful loop walk just over an hour out of Christchurch. 10$ entry fee for adults, 5$ for children, this is well worth paying the views are epic. A brochure is provided so you can note plants and places of significance along the way. In the scheme of day hikes this one is easy, the slopes are majority gradual so I think it would be fine for families. Took us probably 3-4hours as we were photographing the birds. Beautiful place, you can swim in several locations. There is also a beautiful spot to picnic towards the end of the walk.
A very pleasant walk. So pleased to have the use of the walking poles as very slippery in places due to the recent rain. Beautiful scenery and lot's of birds chirping nearby.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo wait
Pretty hard going and mostly uphill for the first half of the walk, the view at the top of the plains below is stunning and there are benches dotted along the track if you need a rest. Bug spray is a must and so is an extra $10 for tree honey. This walk took us 1.5 hours.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Really good uphill walk. A bit muddy in places when we went from recent rains. So make sure you have good shoes on. The views from the top over the plains were incredible.
I really love this place. The walk is a little steep in places so some fitness is good but take your time as there is so much variety of scenery. Part of it is shaded wood and part open and sunny. Bring extra cash to buy honey. Oh and if you like birds it started with the baby Fantails flitting around the reception shead their tails still short.
Absolutely stunning views and great walk, thank you for sharing your property with the public Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Stunning scenery on this nature trail. A small fee of $10 is very worth it. The trail can be quite steep and slippery in some places, but the reward of the views along the way balance that out. Top tip to wear sensible shoes and take water and a camera.Visited onWeekendWait time1 hr+Reservation recommendedNo
