Organic family wines and luxury vineyard accommodation in Marlborough New Zealand
THE HISTORY – WHAT'S IN A NAME?
Towering above the vineyard, Marlborough’s oldest walnut tree from which Walnut Block takes its name, stands in the middle of the Sauvignon Blanc vines. Over 100 years old, the tree provides a special historical focal point for the vineyard.
WELL ESTABLISHED FAMILY VINEYARD
The Sowman family first planted the vineyard in 1996 in Marlborough’s premium Rapaura sub region. By owning the land and carefully managing the vines, they have complete control over the quality of the fruit produced.
Good vine age provides exceptional fruit capable of making wines with complexity and texture. The vineyard site has a diverse array of soil types giving Walnut Block wines a distinct character unique to Marlborough.
ORGANIC CERTIFICATION IN 2013
Walnut Block vineyard is in organic conversion and while some wines will be fully organic as of 2011, official organic certification is only granted after strict organic principles have been followed for several years. Better for the environment and for you, organic practices also benefit the potential flavour of the grapes.
As Clyde says, “We are continually looking at ways to improve vineyard management and evolve our techniques so the fruit we grow is of the absolute best quality”.
