Waiuku Kindergarten is open from 8-5, with 4 and 6 hour sessions available. We offer learning through play for 2-6 yr olds, with 20hrs free ece (T&C apply)

Story

Waiuku Kindergarten offers sessional and 6 hour days, offering families flexibility of choice in attendance times. We offer a ratio of one teacher to ten children. A mature experienced teaching team ensures high quality early childhood care and education is provided for every child in the kindergarten. The service supports inclusive education, and has developed strong working relationships with outside agencies supporting children with special needs.

Waiuku Kindergarten is centrally located in a small township with a diverse ethnic population that supports a large surrounding rural area. Ongoing subdivision is increasing the town’s population, while enabling it to retain its township characteristics. The kindergarten contributes to 10 local schools in the town and outlying rural areas.

Waiuku kindergarten, established in 1960, provides a very well resourced and aesthetically pleasing learning environment. It is spacious inside and out, with a good indoor/outdoor flow. The outdoor area provides a large amount of recently upgraded equipment to maximise opportunities for active movement.

The Kindergarten has a well established ICT practice in place. We are currently focusing on the use of ICT to facilitate the children's transition to school programme.

Annual events include celebrating seasonal and cultural events, Breakfast at Kindergarten, a Father’s Night, a Grandparent’s Week, excursions and visiting cultural groups, and end of year celebrations. Our annual Trike-a-thon and Fancy Dress Disco involve our children, their families and the Waiuku community. We have received a National Heart Foundation Healthy Heart Award for two years running and plan weekly baking sessions which focus on healthy eating.
