Most magical experience, our guide was part of the original family to open the caves up interesting story there. Caverns are amazing. We took the cheaper tour and still felt like we saw a great deal. Boat ride at the end was spectacular. Much respect for the generations before us that discovered this gem with only their bravery and candle light. Gift shop had lovely things bit pricey but to be espected.
Waitomo Caves captivated us with its mesmerizing glow worms and enchanting atmosphere, creating a truly unforgettable adventure. The staff were not only excellent but also made the experience seamless and enjoyable. Our knowledgeable and fun guide took our visit to the next level, sharing intriguing information and ensuring that we had a fantastic time.
Awesome place. Kids absolutely loved it, so did I. The caves are also a must see! - only 2 hours and was amazing
Photography within the caves isn’t allowed, since you won’t be able to see the glow worms and they react to bright flashes of light… Absolutely worth the money, it’s breathtaking! I’d recommend the night tour though… it’s much better then!
It was quite an amazing sight inside the glowworm caves! First part of the tour, you learn about the limestone formation; second part of the tour is a roughly 10-min boat ride during which you see the glow worms. To avoid scaring the glow worms, you are not allowed to take pictures inside the cave. These glow worms are unique to New Zealand so if you are interested in the experience, come to New Zealand!
Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. Suitable for all ages. We really enjoyed seeing the glow worms. There were so many of them like stars in the sky. Definitely worth a visit if you’ve never been.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Our guide was super nice. Photos were not allowed during the cave time, but that’s understandable. Very unique experience.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Really glad we decided to stop by here. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable, and we felt it was well worth the ticket price.
Kia Ora, Waitomo Glowworm Caves is a very popular spot in North Island of NZ, this and three more caves have a species of Glowworm which emit light through bioluminescence process. We started from Auckland around morning 08:30 and reached caves parking area at 10:54 a.m. Drive is very nice, its countryside drive once you have crossed Hamilton towards Ngāhinapōuri. We booked our tickets online to reserve our preferred slot tickets else would have to wait sometime in case tickets on spot would get sold out. It get busier during school holidays and weekends. Its entrance is classy and it’s a photographic spot for visitors. Our tour guide name was "Tui" and was brilliant guide, she explained us about how name originated for this place as "Waitomo". Its named after Māori heritage, wai - water and tomo- hole, right from the start of the tour, Tui explained our group at each point the significance and the scientific reason behind the spot, she also sung an awesome Māori song with our group. Once we saw the points inside the caves where calcium formation Loved the glow worms, caves and boat ride Great to know about the history of this beautiful place. In-all it’s a wonderful experience and if it would have an option of 10 stars, I will give 10. Ngā Mihi
