Waitakere Union Health Centre (WUHC) is committed to providing a high quality, low cost, accessible primary healthcare service to a diverse population.
Waitakere Union Health Centre (WUHC) is committed to providing a high quality, low cost, accessible primary healthcare service to a diverse population including Maori, Pacific and others of low socio-economic status (SES). Our service is Nurse Led, with each patient encounter used as an opportunity for education, preventative healthcare, screening interventions and care of the acute issues. The demographics of the patient register, and regular health needs analyses, have shown that the enrolled population has very high health needs. Waitakere Union Health Centre operates a “not for profit” model, and does not provide dividends or profit share to the staff or the shareholders. The centre began a “move to free” campaign in late May 2012, which has allowed for the removal of patient charges to all patients under 18 or over 65, as well as all families affiliated with a Union. We have begun planning for this “move to free” campaign to include all registered patients at the Centre, and are on target to achieve this by January 2013.
