So good we ate here twice in two days. Everything we ate was very tasty - with special mention going to the beef rib which was sublime. Melt in the mouth with fantastic accompaniments. I did think the duck could have been rendered down a bit more as there was some fatty parts that hadn’t melted. Also the duck leg was quite small! Still overall the place was fantastic - food, venue, location and service. Highly recommend you won’t be disappointed!
We had a lovely lunch at Wairu River Wines Restaurant. We e-biked it there easily. Gorgeous restaurant with great service from the staff. The food was delicious and showcased local produce. Excellent wines as expected. Vegetarian options: Available Kid-friendliness: Maybe Parking: Easy Wheelchair accessibility: Accessible Dietary restrictions: Catered for.
Make sure you make a reservation to eat here while you’re in Marlborough. They get booked up fast. Possibly the only really good restaurant in the area. The staff and food are fantastic. We had the burger and chips, the burger was good and the fries even better. We sat outside with a glass of wine and enjoyed the views and the sun.
Absolutely delicious! The beef short rib was falling off the bone with a beautiful sauce. The blue cheese souffle - divine. The service was friendly and welcoming. We loved our meal even more because of them. Can't wait to be back!
We decided to dine here before visiting other wineries because of the good reviews on Google. We tried the bread, seafood chowder and sashimi. All were good The dippings for the bread were something we’ve not tried before. The seafood chowder was just the right consistency. I found the salmon sashimi all right too much seasoning for my taste but my husband liked it. The staff were friendly and attentive. They no longer do wine tastings at the cellar door, so we did that during our lunch they brought the wines to the table. Bought a few bottles.
Stopped by for a late lunch on the recommendation of a friend. Great service, the food was excellent we had the chili salt prawns and blue cheese soufflé and wine match perfect. The wine was so good we bought a bottle of Pinot Gris for dinner! Highly recommended and will be back if we are in the area.
The images of the restaurant, food and setting resulted in us trying Wairau and it did not disappoint. Quickly seated and watered, the staff were friendly and good for a yarn. We ordered their cheese board and their sticky, pork salad… along with a few glasses of wines. All 10/10, really quality food, the cheese board had generous portions and at $27 I think really good value. That pork salad was incredible! Had Vietnamese style dressing, slightly sweet but fresh, the sticky, pork belly was tender and perfectly seasoned and spiced. Wines we tried the rose, the reserve rose, the resiling and… a sparkling, from the reserve - all top shelf, complex on the nose, sassy character wines, just quality.
The food was really delicious. The place itself was not as nice as some of the other vineyards. But the food was worth it. Got the mussell chowder, shrimp and smoked salmon. The shrimp was deepfried and ever so slightly greasy but the salads were all very fresh with enough acidity to cut through it. Highlight was the mussell chowder which had a kick of heat to make it really sing.
We had a few bad restaurant recommendations in the past few days, so we actually came here with lower expectation. However, every single food turned out to be really good. WR Burger, inspired from Balinese sambal matah, was my personal favorite. Their Chowder was delicious. Duck Pancake was yum as well. I can definitely recommend this place to anyone. Service was excellent and the place was lovely.
Beautiful food and location. Our wait staff were very knowledgeable, friendly and efficient. Highly recommend a visit here.
