Very disappointed .I went to ED and I was been there nearly 11 hours with very severe cut on my thumb and they stitched it without checking properly. Now I cant bend my thumb. I have to open it again and do the repair. but Hutt hospital is taking only life and death situation. For me this is life and death I cant work and ACC 80% is not enough for my family .but hospitals don't care about my situation.
28.4.2023 Firstly this concerns only the clerks that deal with the general public one that I observed tonight the 28.4.2023 : I accompanied a a friend to the emergency room who was in extreme pain and needed to be seen immediately . He was handed a form to fill out even though he could hardly concentrate with a spinal complication which I was assisting him with : he subsequently exited the building because he needed to lay horizontal as laying vertical increased the pain level which was a 10 the maximum pain level . I approach the clerk on tonight and her response was a laugh I said to her that man is in extreme pain and her exact response was a scoff and a laugh to the colleague next to her : this is the state of our health system in Masterton its ridiculous . I randomly was able to talk to a passing nurse and the ball started rolling and my friend who had been operated on recently was finally spoken too and seen by both a triage nurse and a doctor thereafter . There are communication issues that exist here and matters of professionalism that need to be examined also this is not the first incident. Another person had to be bleeding and walking around the E.R before staff reacted to the person whom was in shock which I explained to them 5 times before they reacted and acknowledged she was in shock ocured five months earlier In conclusion there are a number of different issues that exist not just with the masterton public health system but the health system in general we need more nurses and there needs to be closer vetting by the human resources department we need the right people in jobs here . I also acknowledge there is a shortage of nurses and its a pressurised environment this is the result of poor money management which points to both lower and upper level management being at fault there needs to be some changes and we need to up our game here big time for the whole countries sake for better health care and well being . It's I've waited 6 hours for a prescription because no town doctors are available to me to join their practice. It's taken me a week of ringing masterton medical, previous doctors, probation officer, on numerous occasions plus ringing the crisis mental health teams in Wellington which told me they can't really help unless I'm suicidal or perhaps homicidal I jest and wairarapa with nobody able to help me although I have proven mental health medicative needs. Finally I've come into emergency and I'm still not sure if I'm going to be helped. 6 hours later... System is broke but oh hey... The people were nice enough.
I have mixed reviews. Once through ED out back, the Doctors and nurses are fantastic, 5 stars. But im giving this review based on the last visit. My elderly mother went in with a very painful rash and feeling unwell. She went in for triage and the nurse was horrific. She basically told her she was wasting their time and that she needed to decide if she really wanted to see a doctor and to hurry up and decide. She also told her that if she decided to stay she would be bumped to the back of the line. When mum asked her whether she thought she needed to stay, the nurse refused to answer and said mum needed to make that decision! Mum left in the end, in tears. I took her to an emergency GP visit, and they were appalled, she has really nasty infection and needed treatment asap. It is the second time we have experienced that nurse, and while we understand staffing shortages and covid, we cant help but wonder if she hates her job.
I have a mixed review since it's hard to review a place that has many different staff. I've had bad experiences and good. It all depends on the staff you deal with. One of the woman on reception at the A&E is always very rude and moody. She refused to let my husband be seen for his toothache, yet another time they allowed me to be seen for the exact same problem and gave me an injection to numb the pain, my husband went home in excruciating pain. Another woman on reception was much nicer and more helpful. However when we went in to get our 9 month old checked for a fever, a couple of the nurses were quite rude. My LO ended up falling asleep due to being very sick and feverish, I didn't want to wake her and we requested to keep the light off since it was upsetting her and the nurse got very snappy at us and stormed out the room. It was super unprofessional, and discouraged us that we left. We ended up calling an ambulance early the next morning because our LO got worse and the nurses at that hour 2-5am were much better to deal with and showed compassion for us and our LO. It is hard having to show up and put your trust in strangers to care for your small child, it's also very unsettling to see your LO in so much pain. Nurses and Dr's who are able to show compassion and understanding toward the parents and their patients is so important and very valued today since it seems many hearts are growing cold. Thank you to those who did help us and show concern and to those that didn't, I hope you can re evaluate yourselves and show more empathy and less judgment.
Tried to get help and charge my phone for 5mins so I could ring someone to pick me up before the rain set in but this was too much for them to handle. Nobody in the waiting area yet wairarapa hospital let's the town down again. What has happened to decent kindness these days... Just another example of establishments being far too high and mighty for niceness. Sick and lazy receptionist wasn't up to the task of good Samaritan. Shame on you
We arrived at Wairarapa Hospital to go to the emergency department and found a tent based Triage out front. First we were both tested for COVID, and thankfully cleared. Within 30 minutes of arrival we were seen in ED and being supremely looked after. Nothing but praise for the staff, process, and cleanliness of this hospital.
Absolutely disgusted with time it took 2 see a Dr. Nearly 10 hrs. Only water available. No coffee, Tea or a bite 2 eat. Nurse @ 10pm felt sorry & got us a cuppa & a sandwich which was much appreciated. Intending patients should make lots of moaning sounds, don't just sit there & suffer quietly.
Just wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone that I've met in the process of having my cataract removed last Friday. Everyone I met, from the covid checking process through to the time that I left, was so lovely and reassuring. They were carefully explaining what they were going to do and what to expect all the way through. I just had to let them all know how much I appreciated their care. Thank you all.
We waited for 6 long hours for 5 minutes consultation.,.for nothing. Why keeping public waiting for this long... they should change the name emergency to something else. We saw many people leaving without any treatment because of long waiting. This is not right. I have been to many hospitals, in different countries but this is the one place I have seen that an emergency works this slow?! People come to emergency for emergency needs. If you keep people waiting like this your service needs to be updated for the sake of people. A dad waited with two small kids for 6 hours to get 10 minutes consultation?! I have heard about their poor service from so many people but for the first time I am experiencing it. Put right doctors to work. The system needs to be update. I have no idea why many nurses and other people working inside and they took nearly 6 to 9 hours to see only approximately 12 to 15 people. So so disappointed. I didn't expect this service from a hospital from New Zealand. Hopefully they will change for good.
