We stayed in their little cabin for 3 nights as a quiet little get away. It more than met expectations as not only did it have a secluded little courtyard, but it also had a jug and fridge.nShared facilities of laundry, kitchen and bathrooms were well kept and clean.nWe're definitely planning to go back.
We spent one night and really struggled with the overall experience. The carriage we stayed in had a really tricky step up to it, and our service dog struggled to get in and out of the carriage. If you have mobility issues, check with the manager before booking as other carriages had more manageable steps. Some of the paths were cobbled, and the ramp had wooden things to aid walkers but may hinder a wheel chair. The concept is great, but the carriage and the toilets need a good clean. The bedroom was fine, but the TV area in the carriage had an odour of old cigarette smoke, so if you are sensitive to that, it may not suit you. I couldn't change the TV channel, so ask the manager how it works if TV is your thing. The manager was very good-natured even though we interrupted his viewing of a boxing match when we arrived. In our haste to book on our crazy road trip, we forgot to mention we had a service dog. Had we done so, the manager may well have given us a different carriage or advised us to find more suitable accommodation as they were full. A fun experience for young people, perhaps.
I stayed here for four weeks while working on a vineyard nearby and it was a great stay. The accommodation is unique and David is just super lovely. The kitchen has everything you need and the bathrooms are clean.nI really enjoyed staying there
I had a great stay at Waipara Sleepers with my friends. The setting is pleasant and the wagons are super well appointed. The kitchen is large and functional, also the place for many meetings and parties with friends. David welcomed us with pleasure, he always knew how to help us and offer us his many tips. I highly recommend the place for your stay in the region!
I stayed at Waipara Sleepers for the entire winter while I was working at one of the nearby vineyards, and I would very happily recommend it to anyone, whether they’re similarly employed or just travelling. I decided I couldn’t face a South Island winter living in my unheated little camper, so I took a warm, cozy room here and after the first night I was delighted I had! The location is lovely and very convenient, not too far from Christchurch, Hanmer, Kaikoura, etc. The owner, David, was attentive to all the needs of his guests and made us all feel extremely welcome from the beginning. Just an all-round good, dependable guy, which always makes everything much easier and more enjoyable!
