Stunning day out, a must see if you visit Rotorua. Arrive early and take your time enjoy the nature beauty of this area. Make sure you bring sufficient water & snacks as it gets hot on a lovely sunny day. Also you need to wear suitable footwear as your walking on loose gravel footpaths. We took the full experience option which was the 45 minute boat trip once you get to the lake. The Captain gives an informative commentary as you proceed. There are toilets en route, and inclusive tour buses that run often for those that require.
Well organized spot and great for combining a walk with great views of different geothermal activities. The two large pools and river make a great scenery. There are also some small geysers and a bus takes you back to the start on multiple parts of the trail. You can make it as fun as you like! Would recommend if you are looking for a varied walk amongst geothermal activity.
I went back in January 2020 - before the world went into a standstill and COVID was an issue. By far the most magical experience I have ever had - was very warm and fascinating to learn more about certain bodies of water, why it is such a beautiful blue lake! If you ever want to see out of the world visuals this is a place I will recommend.
Absolutely awesome place! Currently a special of $50 reduced from $80 for unguided walk, boat and bus. So much to explore. The walk was approximately 5.5km to the boat. It does say 4 but we did some extra bits. Good paths but wear good shoes. Plenty of picnic areas too and there is a cafe. If hot wear a hat and plenty of sunscreen as lots of uncovered parts.
A must do if you want to see the true beauty of Rotorua. Experience the world bubbling under your feet, boiling waterfalls, steaming streams and spitting cliffs to the calm lake, cool breeze and songs of native birds. The boat trip at the end of the walk is well worth it. You can choose to walk back to reception or catch the bus I got the bus
Was awesome. Path for 1st section very steep and mainly downhill but good pathway...had restricted mobility so only did this bit. Shuttle available at end of first 1.5km, and next section, and lake. Amazing sights..only did first section but would love to do rest and lake cruise next time.
We went on the Rotomahana boat cruise. It's a lovely, peaceful cruise. Really lovely people. Just make sure you go to the toilet before going down on the bus. Didn't get to eat at the Cafe because we had another appointment but we will try it next time.
Beautiful self-guided walk and convenient bus back once you reach the end. The bus driver will also give some really interesting commentary as you drive back! Great to know the business is proudly Māori owned and operated. Would highly recommend a visit!
We really enjoyed our trip here. There were plenty of geothermal hotspots such as hot springs to see, and the inferno crater was amazing. The walk down the trail to bus stop 1 was easy in trainers, and is okay for anyone with a basic level of fitness. There were 45 or so steps up to the inferno crater but this could be skipped if the steps were too much. There is a shuttle bus to take you back from various points of the trail to the start every hour. We arrived at 1045 and it was starting to get busy at that point, but there was no queue to buy tickets. There was a small queue when we were leaving. It cost $44 dollars per person and that included the shuttle bus back. I would definitely recommend going.
A lovely experience that is family friendly. You can do the self-guided walk down to the lake which takes about 1 hour and 45 mins and do the lake tour if you have pre-booked. If you want to jump on the shuttle bus going to the lake and back to the cafe, just wait at one of the 3 bus stops until the next departure time. The Frying Pan Lake Crater and Inferno Lake Crater and must sees
