Went there during school holidays for 3 days and 2 nights. Campsite is huge and flat. Has powered and non-powered sites. Clean long drop toilets, cold shower, and sink for washing. Has a small store for basic needs and more. They also sell ice and bait. Friendly store owners. Beach is just a 5-minute access from our spot. We tried surfcast fishing but no luck lots of Pipi shells when you walk further to the other end of the beach. Friendly campers and no noise after 10, except for the beach waves. Also, be prepared for a 9 km gravel road as you get closer to the campsite. Highly recommended.
This place is great. We have stayed here two years in a row. We prefer the bush side - more space - equal distance between water hole and beach. Waikawau beach is beautiful - snorkelling, surfing, dunes, rock exploring. But don’t miss heading to little bay just a few mins down the rd
We stayed here for 3 nights last March. Such a beautiful place and hardly anyone around : Yes it is but of a hike to get there and the showers were very cold, but we're looking forward to visiting again.
Fantastic DOC campground at a stunning beach. Plenty of space to choose your camping spot, good clean facilities and a a well-stocked little camp shop. Beach is one of the best
Great place to camp. You can choose beachside paddock or bush side. Toliets are long drop/self composting and cold showers. Toliet blocks are modern. Lots of space. Bush walks, track up to stream water hole for swimming. The beach is huge, can be tricky for swimming as it is a surf beach and the waves can be big. But if that's what you are used to all good. Little Bay over the hill is a bit more of a calm swimming spot. There is a little camp shop open over the summer mths.
