The BEST thing to do in Lake Taupo, you must take this incredible tour! The wild beauty of the big cliffs, waterfalls and forests in the western side of the lake has to be seen! And Ian is an excellent tour guide - very knowledgeable, funny and professional. I highly recommend the 2 hour Chasing Waterfalls tour, and I imagine the 3 hour one would be even better.
What a beautiful morning out on the lake with Ian! We stopped to see three different waterfalls, did a nice little hike, and enjoyed some coffee, tea, and Tim Tams on the beach. Thanks, Ian, it was so lovely.
Started the day with magnificent Snapper Fish and Chips from the Kinloch General Store to be met by Ian at the Marina. Headed to the Western area of Lake Taupo which is so underated and under exposed. The waterfalls, the rocks, how the fauna survives is just magnificent. Ian's knowledge of the area is obviously a labour of love but very willing to share his knowledge. Everyone from Taupo and beyond need to have this exquisite emperience. Long time Taupō locals, this was our first trip across to the Western Bays and it did not disappoint, even on a cloudy winters day! Ian was so knowledgeable, giving information we hadn't heard before, and took us for a little bush walk up to the top of the waterfalls while we waited for some bikers. Highly recommend for cyclists on the trails, as well as locals wanting to see something new and beautiful! Shame it was a little too cold to jump in!!
We had a fantastic tour with Ian, our friendly, funny and knowledgeable skipper. He showed us beautiful and unique spots. We had a wonderful time. This trip is definitely recommended if you're in Taupo.
