Variety - the Children's Charity gives disadvantaged Kiwi kids the childhood they deserve.

Story

Every day, nearly 1 in 3 Kiwi kids go without the basics that most of us take for granted. This has a profound effect on their health, education and self-esteem.

We believe that every child deserves the same opportunities to reach their full potential. Variety provides tailored, flexible support to disadvantaged children in New Zealand. We work alongside schools, community agencies, social workers and healthcare professionals to identify children in need.

Variety provides disadvantaged children with basic essentials (such as warm bedding and school uniforms), one-off grants for additional needs (such as medical and mobility equipment) and access to extra-curricular activities (such as school camp or swimming lessons).

With our support, they have access to the same opportunities as other kids, a happier, healthier childhood and the foundation for a better future.

Yesterday, Monday 15 August, a young, fresh-looking youth rang our doorbell. He introduced himself as an IHC employee collecting for the unfortunate children unable to attend school during these Covid-hit times. I am writing to let you know what a breath of freshair he was. He was very smartly presented, from top to toe, confident and articulate. I had to wonder why he didn’t have an office job somewhere and not out in the cold as he was. He was there to do his job, and although he engaged in a littlle small-talk because of a question or two I had asked, he cleverly returned the conversation back to the plight of the many school children who were not at school, and asked ever so politely if I wanted to donate. I did not, and told him so. He graciously accepted my response and was on his way. After he had gone, I regretted not making a contribution, even though the IHC wasn’t one of the several charities we as a family had decided to donate to this year. But Blaine impressed so much, I have since thought of his excellent presentation and have decided to donate $50 toward the cause. So to Blaine, for his wonderful manner, I say, “thank you.” You will make an amazing employee for someone. Your family and school, Botany Downs High School, I think he said, have taught you well. Please pass this on to his supervisor. Ngā mihi.

Variety has given my 2 girls an experience at something that would of been out of my budget and they are absolutely enjoying every minute. Always reply and very professional and friendly.
