Not your typical lookout, you are on a ridge that has commanding views of both Lyttleton town and harbour to the Southwest as well as the bays leading into Lyttleton looking to the East. Beautiful and peaceful spot to watch the sunset. The main trail is a shared walking/mountain bike track, view of Lyttleton Harbour is better near the end of Gilmour Terrace if you start/end from Lyttleton.
We did the Urumau loop over Lyttleton. Very beautiful diverse scenery with great views. Did this in the height of summer so the long grass caused some pretty severe hayfever and allergy reactions despite taking antihistamines. Well worth the hike for the views and beautiful bird life along the way. Quite exposed so can be windy.
Nice bit of natives planting. Goodish for MTBing
Sketchy AF mtb tracks - good for a couple of laps
Cool to see the infrastructure.
