Certainly a fun place to spend your first year as a student. The biggest university hall out of the lot, you get to meet a lot of new people and make plenty of friends. The grounds are so big you can easily get lost when you are new there. The rooms are small as expected but that's all you really need as a student. The toilets are unisex which can take a bit of getting used to. The food was very good and it was fun staying on the 8th floor which had a great view!
Doesn't even deserve a 1 star to be honest. Refectory staff were deplorable, I once told one of the staff that I wasn't able to eat a certain food due to some reason and I nicely asked for a change and they refused no matter what. Surely the most godawful hall ever.
Personally I had a really poor experience in unicol! They prioritise outsiders, punish standard behaviour, corrupt leaders who pick and choose what is morally correct and incorrect depending on who is being punished. On top of that food is shocking and gives no nutritional value - giving it a foreign countries name to make it sound nice it’s not. Only positive were the students within the hall.
Absolutely terribly run, which is unfortunate as it has so much potential. Awful food, foul service and run by a dictator who has no regard for student livelihoods. Would not recommend to anyone, unless you have have an undying love for obeying ridiculous rules.
This place honestly sucks, horrible food, very bad sanitation levels, staff care more about their image than the students wellbeing. Worst hall in otago
