Tūākiri Charitable Trust was established in 2014 to provide "Te Toa Matataki" Transition to Independence Residential Programme for young offenders
We are a Child and Family Support Service established to Provide the Te Toa Matataki Transition to Independence Residential Programme for young offenders aged between 12-17 years of age who require care as a result of their offending. We will provide the daily care, supervision and support of all young people who come through our home. We are a Te Arawa based service and all young people will learn the place and importance of their Maori culture. Each of our young people will be exposed to positive male role models and engage in mahi kai activities of hunting, fishing, mara kai. We are set amongst 2.4 hectares of farmland in which our young people will care for the land around them and raise the animals on the farm. Our hope is that each young person who comes through our home will gain the confidence, skills and ability to move into a life of independence.
