Trinity Wharf Hotel is located a few minutes walk along the Tauranga waterfront from The Strand. The hotel itself is very elegantly designed and furnished. The rooms are large, well equipped and attractive. The dining area and bar are well positioned with great views of the harbour. The staff were professional and pleasant. Not the cheapest accommodation, but you get a high class experience for your money. I would recommend this hotel for a luxurious place to stay.
I have stayed here many times and the reason for returning always is for the location and the rooms. Our recent stay was earlier in the year and we stayed in a Grand King Harbour view room. Spacious clean rooms. However the pool is very deceving. Looks amazing in photos but in person it is very small , deep and no privacy. Not suitable for kids who cannot swim. As it is very deep. Overall great food at breakfast and dinner.
STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS! Not usually one to complain but after multiple mistakes and “human errors” from trinity wharf staff, we wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. The whole place is outdated, room decor is nice but carpet needs updating and overall needs a good clean and paint. Pool looks nothing like the photos. Room cleaners knocked on our door at 7am to clean. Toilet was not cleaned and *used* when we checked into our room. Appalling meal and service downstairs in restaurant and bar. Took 1.5 hours to get food. Staff seem unhappy and the whole place was miserable. Better spending money elsewhere!
I was a bit unsure of going here after some of the reviews but needn't have been. Yes the exterior needs some TLC which I understand is soon to happen, but overall a decent mid / upper style of accommodation. Parking is plentiful but at times chaotic depending on what is going on at the hotel although the rain that weekend did not help either which must be factored in. Rooms: Very large with what had the potential of being a good view but for the inclement weather and the roof of the rooms below us that was somewhat of an eyesore. Spa bath was nice but not really built for two ahem as it appears to be made for. Shower had decent pressure but head was a bit non compliant with direction. Underfloor heating though blew my mind, so good. Bed was comfy but tv was mediocre in terms of reception and info to drive the flamin thing. Food & drinks: Didn't eat at the restaurant for dinner as the menu was bit limited and not what we felt like. Brekky though was superb, with great continental and cooked options. Noteworthy details: Tried using the gym which is in a reasonably good space and set up well. The problem is that the machines are not great. They are like the ones you hire at home for a bit of rehab which I guess makes sense because who goes to a hotel to use the gym...oh yeah me!. The reason breakfast was so.good was because of Archie. That dude exudes manaakitanga. Working on Sunday, huge smile and damn if he's not the most attentive, customer focused individual I've ever met. Set my day up perfectly.
My best friend stayed here on her wedding night she paid a lot of money for the bridal suite with all the romantic extras. When they arrived after leaving their wedding the security guard was very rude to them and embarrassed them by telling them loudly that their card had insufficient funds which it didn't in front of other customers. Then, when they got to their room they were met with a normal room not the bridal suite without any of the romantic extras they were paying for. Obviously being late at night nothing could be done or changed and my friend was devistated. She had checked with them 2 weeks before to make sure everything would be perfect which Trinity had assured her it would be. They decided not to stay for the extra night they had booked. Trinity has not even offered a full refund for this special night that they will never get back. They have only offered to give them another night in the bridal suite at a later date, which doesn't really cut it given that night won't actually be their wedding night, making out like not charging them for the second night that they didn't stay and only charging them for a normal room was some sort of favour to them. I feel that given the importance of this night that should have been 100% perfect and amazing, that Trinity majorly screwed up and my friends should be fully refunded as well as have a night in the bridal suite with everything they originally wanted for their wedding night. Every aspect of this experience was so upsetting for my friend and was such a sad way for her and her husband to end their beautiful day. Very poor Trinity Wharf.
Positioned with a lovely view, trinity is convenient and well priced right on the waterfront. The service is friendly and welcoming, there's plenty of parking and the in house restaurant has delicious breakfast and dinner offerings - the fish and chips were top tier. The room was relatively modern, comfortable with a great shower! Rooms: Relatively modern decor, very comfortable and quiet with lovely views. The shower was amazing! Food & drinks: The in house restaurant was delicious, a selected menu done well for dinner and a basic buffet offer for breakfast. Ordered the Chicken burger for room service and not only was it the fastest room service EVER, it was top 3 chicken burgers I've ever had. Just down the road there is arguably the best fish n chips in the bay at Bobby's fresh fish market and a bit further down 10 min walk is a bustling strip of restaurants - Macau is my recommendation.
Hotel is very dated and amenities are below average. Entered room to find bathroom had not been cleaned- just a surface wipe. Human hairs in bedding. Went to the restaurant for dinner, beautiful location and views but service and food was average, bland and tasteless. This place used to be the best but unsure if they have had a change in management as it’s really run down. Would stay elsewhere and save yourself the let down.
The rooms are very spacious and up market. Loved the pool at the end of each day. Good location at the end of town and easy access to the main road the the Mt. Most of the staff were friendly.
Stayed in the hotel for 3 nights and I booked it because it is the only proper hotel available in Tauranga. Please note that the Urban rooms consisted of 2 single beds; and if you book a double bed, they just put the 2 beds together. I got this type of room and I requested for a change cos it is uncomfortable. In the end, I was allocated a King Bed. The room itself is clean but with dated furnishings. The carpet is well used and is no longer plush, and the bed sag in the middle. Not the most comfortable. However, it is ok, the amenities are complete including bathrobes. But what made my stay was the staff - they were obliging and eager to please, even as they cope with a staff shortage. All the staff I encountered, from the reception, to the manager, to the staff who help heat up my food, to the breakfast staff, they are all exceptional! So my compliments to the team! What the hotel can do coming from an ex hotelier, is to ensure that the property and equipment are kept in good condition. Change the old mattress, have the carpets refurbished, replace wobbly chairs in the restaurant and fix that toaster at breakfast. Your staff is already doing so much to keep guests happy. Just my two cents. But yes, good hotel and I would stay here again.
NOT A 4-STAR HOTEL, DON'T FALL FOR THE PICTURES Summary: Felt like staying in an overpriced highway motel. View: Stayed in an urban view room, which in reality overlooks the highway. Not even a glimpse of the harbour. Room: Very dated interior with wear and tear visible everywhere. Carpet floor is old and smelly, doesn't feel hygienic at all. Bathroom cleaning also not up to standards with filth all over the seals. Plus for underfloor heating, which is the only luxury part of the room. Noise: Plumbing is extremely noisy and it sounded like someone is taking a shower all night, despite our room being on the top floor. On top, in-room fridge is loud and there is also rattling from the railway across the street. Could not sleep without ear plugs, which should simply not be needed in a 4 star hotel. Location: About 15min drive away from beach area with the main activities. Tauranga city is about 10min walk, but right next to the hotel there is hardly anything except the highway. Pool: Rather small and has seen its best days long ago. Unheated so not very enjoyable for more than a short swim. No additional facilities like sauna available. Recommendation: If you still decide to stay here, be sure to get the harbour view room. Not sure if the room is any better, but at least you won't be paying 300NZD for highway scenery.
