Tresillian was a family owned boutique winery. It has closed the cellar door but has wine available at excellent prices.
In 1998, Graeme and Heather sold their home in Auckland to move to Canterbury, in search of the good life. They bought land on the stoney free draining soils in West Melton, and in 2001 planted the first Pinot Gris vines. From there, Pinot Noir, and Riesling were planted.
The name Tresillian is the name of the historic farm upon which the vineyard sits. The farm was named in 1854 by it's second owner, Mr Charles Reed, after his home village in Cornwall, England. He must have been feeling a bit homesick!
