Towai Hotel!
Is located approx 30 minutes north of Whangarei and 20 minutes south of Kawakawa.
The Tavern is now under fresh new management!
Leonie Williams and Graeme Ricketts are now the brand new owners of the Historic pub and have a lot of great new ideas for the bar/hotel for 2013..
It may look settled enough today but the popular Towai Hotel has many stories of its own!
The hotel has made history several times since it was established 133 years ago. One story is about how it reached its present site.
Originally located close the old railway station, about a kilometre away from its present site the hotel was at the bottom of a steep hill. In 1933 the whole hotel was moved up the hill on rollers. The pulling tractor was the first crawler-type tractor to be used in Northland it took three days to make the move and the bar apparently never closed!
At Towai Hotel you will find accommodation, food, pool table, a garden bar and a friendly smile when you walk in the door among other things..
