This is not a place for authentic Thai food, it’s more of a Thai fusion restaurant. We ordered the TongTara combination, Tom Yum seafood it tasted sweet rather than a spicy/sour and the yum beef salad which I expected it to be a Thai beef salad with bbq beef on fresh salad or greens, it came out as stir fry beef on salad greens. The service was good.
Good friendly and attentive staff. Great selection of dishes and some lovely wines by the glass. Would’ve given a 5-star review but the chicken mince that was in the rice paper rolls over powered what should be a great tasting fresh dish. The rest of the dish and dipping sauce was delicious. Mains perfect temperature and great to get the ‘heat’ you ask for. The batter on the fish curry was a bit thick and soggy but the fish was really good, lots of it and cooked perfectly. Lots of lovely fresh vegetables too. All in a great dinner and will definitely be back. Vegetarian options: Good selection of vegetarian dishes. Dietary restrictions: Will accommodate dietary requirements where possible.
Got delivered, $30 each.....partners chicken salad went straight to the bin. Looked like a sliced chicken burger patty with 2 tablespoons of salad, and wayyy to spicey! Disappointed.
Best Tom Yum fried rice in the region. A bit slow for lunch but with this level of tastiness it's worth it.Food: 5/5
This is the first time we have dined here. The table really was not big enough to fit glasses, extra drinks and our dishes. The food was good, the lamb Shanks were falling of the bone!! The sauce was a bit to sweet. The beef in the red curry was a little chewy... but loved the bamboo and Mini corn!! Appetizers were ok... nothing really stood out. Not a fan of the soup. What did stand out... is the service!! The staff was very professional and friendly. The service was outstanding... and many restaurants could learn from Tongtara Thai. Thank you.
Everything was Fantastic ! A cool rainy grey early evening ... Nice and warm and cosy inside with relaxing chilled music playing in the background. Great friendly attentive service. We ordered a mix of entree's that couldn't be faulted. . Fish Cakes, mini pork ribs, melt in your mouth lemon salt pepper calamari, chicken nibbles... then a main to share of "Chef's Special " spicy crispy crumbed chicken and fried rice ... Absolutely Delicious! And I Loved having Chard Farm Chardonnay : Thank You for a beautiful dinner !
Value for money and tasty Thai food. The waitress was so polite, friendly and helpful. She made the place even more pleasant!

*The best Thai Food in the town* The most closer taste to local Thai Food!And, I have been going 3 times in a month with my friends! Recommend the tomyam seafood soup, pineapple fried rice, pad thai and curry puff! It's has special price during lunch hour, but there have dinner set too which can serve for 4 people. If you are miss the Thai food like me, don't miss out this restaurant when you passed by Nelson!
