National Park visitor centers are my absolute jam. I love speaking to the park rangers, looking at maps, checking out the gift shop, and seeing what they have in the way of a museum. The clean and fully functioning bathrooms are always a bonus, too. We left with some freeze dried meals, some postcards, and most importantly, a clear idea of which hiking routes to take during our short time visiting the park.
Wife and I did the 2 hour Taranaki falls hike, well worth it. The nature is beautiful, the falls was awesome, the river/creek was cool!!
This place is a must to visit when you are in north island! Hikes ranges from easy to hard. Choose your battle, but be sure to check weather before proceeding. As it might affect your scenic view or your hikes.
This is an amazing National Park with beautiful varying landscapes and very different flora and fauna. There are many nice trails of different length.
The staff are very helpful! I love how informative they are, you can walk through the centre and learn about the history of previous eruptions, what to do when an eruption happens. There was such a cool 3D model of the park which makes it feel so real and up close. They also have cute gifts.
