The TENTacle off the grid (no power or running water) performance and gathering space for people to enjoy being creative, and learning from each other.
The TENTacle is an off-grid (No Electricity or running water - which means a compost toilet and collected rainwater for hand-washing) space for performance artists, musicians, gardeners, community builders, educators and learners to share their gifts and talents with others. The te Wheke stage provides a performance and presentation area for larger groups. There is built in basic seating around the sides of the TENTacle, with floor cushions and beanbags for audiences and workshop participants.
The kaupapa is about people sharing their talents in a supportive and nurturing environment that is conducive to growing personally and professionally within a supportive community.
Located on the side of the valley overlooking the Wairoa River at the Arty House – 5mins out of Bethlehem, Tauranga, Aotearoa New Zealand, the kaupapa of this special place is one that is expressed through Te Wheke – the Octopus – each tentacle representing an aspect of holistic well being.
Te Wheke sits at the back of the stage, painted and gifted to the TENTacle by professional artist Mischelle O’Donnell. The painting is a styalised representation of Te Puru, taniwha of the Wairoa River, who was known to protect and bring people home to a sense of community.
At The Arty House we also have the Sun Stage for performance events that require electricity. The Arty House itself is available as a therapeutic space with onsite Creative Therapist Janice Higgison, or as a hireable space for anyone wanting to utilise it for programmes, retreats or even holidays.
Enjoy the sharing that takes place here in this unique enviroment.
