First time in New Plymouth and honestly can't recommend The State Hotel enough. The hotel is at an extremely high standard, our room was amazing Luke was very welcoming and answered any questions we had. If you ever head this way stay here you definitely won't regret it. Amazing hotel in the heart of the city! Really cool place with lots of character. Staff are delightful! Luke and his partner are lovely! Megan was so awesome! She really made me feel welcome, had time to chat and has fantastic customer service too! Rooms are small even the king room but I knew that going in. So good being close to everything. Little bit of street noise but you get that being in the middle of the city. Joes garage down stairs is awesome too and you get 10% off. Also the 12pm check in and out is so good! Every hotel should do that! Beautiful artwork and nice little lounge. Plenty of car parking and safe and monitored too. Comfy bed. Would definitely recommend!! Good work team!
We choose this hotel because of its centre city location and were blown away by how lovely it is. We loved the decor, boutique feel, and excellent, friendly and very helpful staff. The hotel offers spacious free parking close by. Our room was luxurious, with a comfy bed and excellent linen. We will definitely stay again, and recommend to all our friends.

This was a last-minute booking for me due to a cancelled flight, I was blown away by the little touches like a welcome note and delicious Whitakers treats in the room I had only booked 30 min earlier. The warm welcome when I arrived and offer to help carry bags was so lovely after a stressful afternoon. The hotel itself is gorgeous, the room was well appointed, it was small and so cosy. If I ever find myself in New Plymouth again, I will definitely be staying here and I will be recommending it to colleagues and friends as well. Thank you
I did not stay in the hotel itself, but we went to Joe's Garage to eat - and it was a REAL treat! Yum. The ambience was typical for this chain, but also with individual pieces and fun. Service was excellent. Good advice from the waiter, and he helped design our combination dishes. Very yummy ! Service was pleasingly quick. The food was great - each of us were well satisfied indeed!! I'll be back !!
This is literally the best hotel I have ever stayed in NZ. It’s like the owner decorates this hotel like his own house and you will feel his impeccable taste once step in the hallway. Carpet, bathroom, bed are clean and comfy. The room is properly lit. It is also conveniently located in the city center, close enough to walk to the most attentions down the city. Behind the hotel there are also some guest car parks. The only thing you need to notice is that this is an adult-only hotel so children and noisy people are not welcomed and please be hush during stay.
We spent a lovely night at the state hotel when visiting new Plymouth for a wedding. The guest lounge was lovely to sit in. The location and parking were great and a bonus of being able to check in at 12 o’clock to get ready when I booked directly with the hotel.Rooms: 5/5
What an absolute find, the hotel is beautifully decorated with an unusual twist. A lot of thought has gone into the decor and I was really impressed. Everything was spotlessly clean and had a luxury feel. The towels and linen are high quality and the bed was super comfortable. I was staying for the one night and on my own, so I stayed in the Standard Double room. the room was well appointed and spacious. I highly recommend The State and will defiantly stay again, when next in NP. Well done Luke and your Team. Suzanne
It was the second time that we stayed at The State Hotel, and the high standard is always there! We can't fault it. Luke is a really neat host along with his great team, and he makes us feel very welcome. The rooms are stunning! The hotel is close to restaurants, Pukekura Park, and other attractions!
