About

Sowers is a charity that walks alongside both young people and families enabling opportunities for change and growth. We are East Auckland based.

Story

SOWERS has been serving East Auckland since 1988 and are the only Child Youth and Family approved provider in the area.

We recognise that all children and young people should be treated with dignity, love and respect and that they have the right for their needs to be met in a safe and nurturing environment.

SOWERS believes that where possible, early intervention and support for families at a grass roots level is required to achieve effective and lasting outcomes. It is necessary to strengthen the ‘fence at the top of the cliff’ for at-risk families.

What We Do:

MENTORING AND YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES:
We provide mentoring for young people and have a number of programmes available that sit alongside this.

These programmes are Anger Management (Handles), Self Esteem, Mentoring, Life Skills and Discovery Camp.

WRAP AROUND CARE FOR INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES:

Designed to provide ongoing social work support to families and individuals by working alongside them to achieve their desired outcomes. We recognise that each family is different and tailor our services to each individual or family that we work with.

Areas of focus include empowerment, increasing confidence and self esteem, parenting and life skills, advocacy and information giving, close support for those living in or recovering from domestic violence and assistance with referral to specialist services.

TRIPLE P PARENTING:
A programme to support parents and caregivers by engaging, encouraging and empowering families to address common child and adolescent social, emotional and behavioural challenges.

Triple P aims to enhance a parent's knowledge, skills and confidence; to promote the development of non-violent, protective and nurturing environments for children; to promote the development, growth, health and social competence of children and to enhance the competence, resourcefulness, and self-sufficiency of parents in raising their children.

The Sowers Trust provide services to the whole of Howick Ward which includes Pakuranga, Howick and Botany, heading right out towards Flatbush.
