The Shed Project is a local organisation that works with disabled and disadvantaged people.
The Shed Project in Paraparaumu, New Zealand, is a newly formed organisation.
We aim to eliminate all all barriers in order to achieve successful integration into the community for those who may be potentially marginalized due to disability, gender, emotional or behavioral problems.
It has a multi-functional purpose, focusing primarily in three areas:
The promotion of the rights and full participation of people with disabilities in society.
The reduction of social stigma and barriers facing those trying to reintegrate into the workforce.
To increase self efficacy and confidence in those who lack social and other skills which may prevent successful entry into the workforce.
The Shed Project provides a venue that community organisations can operate and function in ways that might previously not have been possible due to a lack of a venue.
We are also associated with Think Differently (http://www.thinkdifferently.org.nz), a campaign to raise public awareness of people with disabilities, encourage inclusive attitudes and social acceptance.
