Food overall was good, personally too much dressing on salad that it looked wilted and not fresh. Taste for all else good. Lovely setup, great that it had pool tables. A number of nooks and crannies to eat. Great walk down to jetty.
EDITED: Fair response from owner - and although I was being honest, I was a bit harsh on the seating considering it was our mistake on the booking. Still not a fan of the food though. Tough one… gorgeous views with underwhelming food and service. The location is absolutely beautiful… but the food and service are lacking considering the price. We didn’t book for 5, we booked for 3…. So were seated in a cramped, middle of the room table with inadequate leg space with no view. This was confusing given we were one of only three other tables in an extensive space - and from arrival until leaving, there were so many other tables available. It was not comfortable while we ate. Generally the service was attentive - but they had a mistake each course, which was rectified but it felt the care wasn’t there. The food was bland and reminded me of ‘fancy’ in 2012. The crème brûlée was overcooked, they couldn’t do the ‘market fish’ dairy free and the ribs were bland, tough and seemed reheated. Would pop in for a pint, but I feel the dining isn’t worth it. The drinks though… that espresso martini was excellent.
Ordered the scotch filet which was $45. It was disappointing although really well cooked because the steak was really thin and that isn't what you'd expect from this cut of meat. It was half the thickness of what you'd get from the supermarket or butchery.nThe salad was largely just leaves with no dressing.nAdded with a 15% public holiday surcharge this was one expensive and underwhelming meal. Not expected from what looked like the most expensive item on the menu.nEveryone else's fish and chips looked great though. Can't say I'll be back unfortunately.
My third time at this lovely restaurant. Great atmosphere, food and drink options and friendly service.
Booked a city tour, very small group 6 of us! Our tour guide name is Danny, he took us to The Riverhead Restaurant! Best fish & chips in town!
