The Quarry Arts Centre is an interesting and eclectic place, brimming with creativity nnIt is an artist commune, where artists from different genres and different mediums ceramics, glass, wood, etc. reside together at enclosed by bush covered walls of the old quarry.nnThere are different gravel and unpaved tracks to follow, which will lead you to interesting garden art and sculptures surrounded by lush green busha flowing river, and an awesome waterfall near the back of the property.nnThere are many artists busy at work, creating their next masterpiece Some welcome a chat, while others are too immersed in their work.nnThere is a cafe, a gift shop, a place to buy art supplies and a dedicated gallery to the famous Yvonne Rust.nnThey offer kids classes ‍ holiday programmes, pottery, NZQA certified Diploma Courses, workshops, and online shopping nnAlthough extremely interesting, it seems a bit dilapidated and in need of some TLC
Awesome atmosphere and some really talented artists working here amongst nature. Recently went to see Dave Taylor who carves with various materials. He did a bit of work on my Ponamu for me and I had a nice chat to him about art and music while he worked. Top bloke.
The Quarry Arts Centre is a huge asset to Whangārei. An amazing place to visit with ever changing art works and resident artists. The Te Kowhai Print Trust is an amazing resource and I am going to enjoy future visits there.
This place is definitely worth a visit if you like art.nnIt is a community of live working artists, you can meet them, discuss their works.nnIts brilliant
Visited on a Saturday of a long weekend but most shops closed. Rather neglected look about it, which was disappointing to my friend who had fond memories from back in the day at the Quarry. Directional signage to the Centre from the highway was poor. I could see that it was a really cool place in days gone by.
