A great place to enjoy a meal and a drink. The service was friendly and could not be faulted. Our Ploughman's lunch was very enjoyable and large enough to be shared. The atmosphere cosy and comfortable.nWe'll look forward to returning
Food was absolutely delicious. Stopped in on a shore day from a cruise. If your looking for fresh, honest food made well, here's your place. Also the Peckhams Farmhouse cider was very yummy.
Amazing what 2 people can achieve! One in the kitchen and the other running service and bar. Great food enjoyed with friends
### Restaurant Review: The Portsider in New ZealandnnAs first-time travelers from the US to New Zealand, we were eager to explore local cuisine and were repeatedly recommended The Portsider by locals and our AnB hosts.nnUpon entering, we were greeted with a warm and cozy atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed evening. The restaurant boasts an impressive selection of beers, and we opted for the local Emerson Pilsner, which proved to be a crisp and refreshing choice.nnFor starters, edamame with soy and a splash of the Local hot sauce. Our main courses were the Market fish and the sirloin salad entree. Both dishes were yummy. The fish was cooked to perfection, with a delicate balance of flavors and the sirloin salad was a delightful combination of tender meat and an interesting mix of greens, including flavorful microgreens.nnBoth were also presented beautifully on the plate, showcasing attention to detail. Portions were generous, ensuring we left fully satisfied.nnAs the evening progressed, we noticed the restaurant filling up quickly, emphasizing its popularity among locals and visitors alike. We highly recommend The Portsider to any travelers seeking a top-notch dining experience—our advice: go early to secure a spot in this cozy gem of a restaurant.nnCheers to great food and warm hospitality!
After researching the history of the first ship, John Wickliffe, carrying a lot of Scottish settlers anchored on 23 March 1848 at Port Chalmers, which was exactly the same date as my sister Simone's birthday for me to celebrate a combination of both. I thought choosing the Portsider was a really cool idea, as the venue for one of its historic ports and the English-style pub dinner like a plate of cheese risotto with spinach and some rice and beer, which I tried McLeod dark ale and a Crème Brûléedessert for new challenges with 3 relatives gathered. What an enjoyable evening we've had, and thanks so much for the hospitality provided tonight.
