The Mother Hood is an online community to support and empower mums through the journey that is ‘motherhood’.
Hi I’m Jane,
a busy Social Media Mum of two active little girls.
In another life… before kids, I enjoyed a long career in education, teaching all ages from two year olds to teens.
My grounding in education came from New Zealand primary schools. I later went on to spend over 10 years teaching at a prestigious London pre school.
I also had a brief, but fun stint as a nanny.
Part of my role was working closely with parents, supporting them through their motherhood journeys – as every one of our parenting experiences is unique.
Even though I was well prepared on paper, nothing quite prepares you for the whirlwind that is having your own children.
Born and raised in sunny Northland I returned to New Zealand to raise my girls after many years living in the UK. Now living the kiwi dream with my South African husband (we just don’t mention the rugby) we have settled down into busy family life.
While I loved being home with my girls, when I had my second baby I felt quite lonely and isolated. There’s a lot of support for first time mums but you are expected to just get on with it second time around.
It’s amazing how much you forget and I needed somewhere to ask questions, gain advice and chat to others going through the same experiences.
However, leaving the house with a baby and a toddler can be difficult, so I started to look online. There were lots of pages overseas offering this support but nothing that was local or relevant to New Zealand mums.
Therefore… The Mother Hood™ was created…
