"The Matakana Village Pub...Built in 1903 in what has become the heart of Matakana Village, The Matakana is a bit of an institution. It was built from the timber of a single kauri tree by the village post master and after his death became a boarding house for dairy factory workers. It was a restaurant of note in the 80’s run by a Frenchman with a michelin star tooted on his rump. Three farming couples and three city couples revitalised and upgraded the establishment in 2012 into a cool, relaxed and family friendly village pub. Now in the hands of a new group of enthusiastic owners since April 2016, they plan to continue on the traditions of the pub."

Had the burger, and what a great decision. Hot chips, perfectly cooked and the best bacon. Lots of beer on tap and the food the others were all eating looked as good as my burger. Home made pie specials looked so good . Great chef who obviously takes pride in what they do. And parking out the back.

If "you want to go where everybody knows your name and is always glad you came",then this is the place to be. Being a new being, new to the Matakana area the staff is personable, kind, and helpful all off the charts. Food, drinks, beer, wine, and toilets all exceed expectations
Great food and value for money here unlike a lot of other pub-style places. My partner and I have been here a couple of times as a quick stop. The most recent time we got the Matakana burger, upgraded to a large fries and the Cesar salad. Although on the pricey end, the portion size is fantastic and we can never finish all that we order. Super yummy food and great service. Very satisfied thanks!

Food was alright. The lamb was raw and didn’t have flavor, the sea food chowder was mushy and had tiny mussel shell in it. Rate this place 5/10
Had a lovely family meal there on Saturday. Pretty busy but great service. Only downside was my barely chilled craft beer but it might have been seldom ordered so that's ok, and a dish turned up by mistake but we took it and paid for it and it was delicious. Overall very good establishment and will be going back.
Awesome meal in great atmosphere with friendly obliging staff. Food was amazing only downer was dishes came out in random and not at same time. Quality of meal made up for that. Nice entertainment..Great singer. Highly recommend
Had a great lunch and delicious fresh seafood on new years day. It was flat out busy but staff were great. Had a slight delay in getting one meal but the owner sorted it out quick smart. Thanks for good start to 2023.
