The Lazy Lounge was started in 1999 by two friends; Nick Saunders and Patrick Thompson, who wanted to settle on Waiheke but needed an island-based occupation. The Lazy Lounge building is actually the original tea rooms in Oneroa, dating back to the 1920s. After several reincarnations, rezoning and renovations, we were able to bring the tea room spirit back to life and make it into the 'institution' that is now known as the Lazy Lounge. It is a sprawling, comfortable and eclectic building with fantastic sea views, extensive garden and games / pool room. We are the longest serving Café Owner/Operators on Waiheke and proud of it.
We cater to all kinds of people from teens to pensioners, businesspersons to backpackers and offer them good value for money meals and a chilled out and relaxed atmosphere. The Lazy Lounge is Family Oriented and we have a large 'kids only' castle, climbing wall and other fun playthings in the back of the garden just for those wee ones. We have an in-house radio station 'Waiheke Wireless 88.0 FM' that keeps the smooth/funky/eclectic groove going in the café and provides the 'theme music' to the colourful interiors, personalities and artwork featured here at the Lazy Lounge.
