Me and my daughter shared a plate of nachos. We sat outside in a little area with tables in the sun. The nachos were great. Full of flavour with a really generous amount of guacamole and sour cream on top. The place was clean and the staff was friendly. The meal was served in good time. I will be going back as we both enjoyed the visit. The plate was large l, we didn't finish it.
Visited for a quiet beer after Kariotahi. Lovely staff, working very hard. Loved the atmosphere, an old hotel feel still present and added to the experience. The food we ordered was great and well pricedService: 5/5
My husband and came to the Kentish for our first wedding anniversary. Had the meat sharing platter for 2, WOW what a feed, tasted good, soo much food, service was great. We are so lucky to have this place as our local.Service: 5/5
Average service at restaurant. We ordered the seafood platter to share and weren't told when we ordered or when it was brought to us that they didn't have any salmon for it and that is was replaced with extra squid rings. We were a couple minutes into it when we realised it was missing from the platter and asked the waitress about it. At $45 for the platter, a few extra squid rings to replace salmon doesn't really cut it. Other than that, the venue, facilities, and gaming room were very good.
Love the nostalgia of this building. So rich in history. A long serving duty manager has recently ended employment here and has relocated across the ditch marking this an end of an Era. They will be be sorely missed and very hard to replace. They were part of the appeal to The Kentish.Rooms: 4/5
Only reviewing the restaurant we ate in as we didn't stay in the hotel at all. TLDR Please don't go here. Eat a bag of crisps or buy a pie at a service station. Longer review below... I really don't want to say anything disparaging about this establishment as my partner and her family have some wonderful memories of it, however this may just be the least enjoyable dining experience I've had in many years. The unfortunates: - eggs so overcooked I thought it was served on whole grain bread is was actually just the bottom of the omelette - steak so vastly overcooked we couldn't cut through it, even when asked for rare. Mostly pieces of cartilage. - took 90+ minutes to recieve our order when only one other table was occupied at time of arrival - water glasses had lipstick and other people's saliva on the rims when we arrived. - out of several menu options. - when commenting on some of the above to the wait staff was told "you may as well keep it because it'll take too long to cook another". - flies all over food and in kitchen when looked in through the serving window. - very expensive for everything, even if it was good food. The positives: - gorgeous view - open air windows let a good breeze through - good lemon lime and bitters I'm so sorry to the staff who have to defend this place.
We dined today at The Kentish and it was the worst restaurant experience we have had in a very long time. Ordered at 2:20pm, food did not arrive until over an hour later. When we mentioned to the waitress that what we had been served was not what we had ordered she was extremely rude and stated that we could “either wait 30 minutes for the kitchen to make the right meal or eat what we were given”. After this, she informed us that the kitchen had no more eggs and that any meals that were still to be served would have no eggs before walking off without providing an alternative or solution to any of these meals. We were still waiting on an eggs Benedict - hmmm….? So were we only going to receive a meal with bread and hollandaise??. Of the meals that did arrive, the bread in the steak sandwich was so stale it couldn’t even be cut with a knife and the steak itself was fatty while the portion sizes of fries around the table varied greatly. The buns in the burgers were also stale and our final meal of fish and chips was missed and arrived 20 minutes after the rest of the meals. When we asked the same waitress about where the meal was, we were met with more rudeness in the rather creative reply of “in the kitchen”. The plates also arrived dirty. After speaking to the manager, we were offered 10% off the final price bearing in mind there was a 15% surcharge for the public holiday so we were effectively still paying full price and a free round of drinks, while I appreciate how the manager was kind and did her best to rectify the situation, this barely covered the appalling service and food. 1/10 stars - one point only for the building itself being historical and quite a lovely location.
We had a lovely birthday celebration. The staff was friendly and the food great! We only had to wait a little long, but worth it.
Went here today for lunch with my wife and 2 kids food was great as usual however my wife has had surgery so she cannot eat a full size meal she requested a half portion of eggs benedict which the kitchen agreed on. We paid and got charged full price for the eggs benedict when asked why this was, apparently half portions were not a usual request and subsequently got offered 10 percent off the full price we declined as it should have been half price for this meal in my opinion. So we shall spend our money elsewhere in future no biggie i'm sure the Kentish can afford to lose patrons.
5 meals were ordered and weren't that great 4 steak meals one was cooked the way they were ordered n they came with potatoes and roast pumpkin.... 1 salmon meal with vegetables which were cold and soggy seemed to be straightout of the freezer, the salmon was fine ....all meals were served on cold plates n 1 creme Brule was order and not up to par.... We had previously dinned in November and the meals for all 7 of us were perfect and also the night we dinned they had a private function and the staff and meals were great.....won't be coming back
