Helen and Dave have created a wonderful getaway in their small corner of the world. Our stay in the Fishing cabin was fantastic, complete with comfy beds, a spacious common area, and detailed décor. Our host themselves were wonderful to converse with and provided us some great options for food and activities outside our planned wine tastings. We cannot recommend them enough as a fabulous option for anyone looking to spend a few days in Marlborough. Nearby activities: Our hosts recommended Gromado's restaurant in town for a wonderful Brazilian dining experiencing, complete with lamb, beef, and a chili pepper sampling. They also recommended the 'Mail Cruise' out of Picton harbor, which was a delightful ~4hr cruise of the sound where we got to be a part of mail delivery to several of the remote houses scattered about the coast. These items broke up our days of wine taskings making for an overall wonderful experience.
The accomodation is fabulous, the hosts Helen and Dave have created an outstanding experience in every respect. Their hospitality is genuine, the welcome warm and they are helpful with everything from where to eat, where to go and how to get there. A beautiful environment with attention to detail that sets ' The Jolly Poacher Retreat' apart from other accomodation. Cottages are spacious with lovely interiors, superb beds, breakfast, gardens, pathways and lighting and a pool . We give it our highest recommendation and look forward to staying there on our next trip to Marlborough in January 2023. Rob and Cathy NZ
I recently had the pleasure of staying at the 'Fishing Lodge'. I couldn't fault anything about it. Bed was super comfy, the kitchen had everything you would want. The surroundings were so peaceful and serene and hosts Dave & Helen made sure you wanted for nothing. I'll be back Rooms: 5/5
Helen and Dave are wonderful hosts they went out of their way to make sure that we had everything we needed, and they were only to happy to help. Acomodation was absolutely percent and the setting was lovely and quiet and peaceful. We'll definitely stay again.Rooms: 5/5

As soon as you drive in the gate to the property you get the feeling of serenity, Old English homestead nestled amongst old English trees and gardens. The warmth of the hosts is overwhelming and you ask yourself why haven’t I found these wonderful people and their newly built ‘ retreat’ chalets before, we haven’t because they are brand new, we were the 2nd couple to stay there. One is outfitted with the shooting theme, the other is fishing, all beautifully furnished and whooow the bed, so comfortable. A wander around the property is unforgettable, from the cows and sheep in the back paddock to the perfume from the numerous roses and plants in the beautiful gardens and yes for the men ... a full blown mans shed! Seriously everything is 10 out of 10 from the hosts who are as I said awesome, down to the menu if you wanted all meals supplied, will we back... certainly will.. Graeme and Margaret Musson

5/5 Just a great facility to enjoy. A big ups to Dave and Helly for providing such a facility for people to enjoy, Including the no expense spared Build, Day core and furnishings make this stay a must , They enjoy interacting with there guests and sharing there local knowledge. Helly made a beautiful home made Chocolate cake, we also cooked Pizzas in there huge Pizza oven and huge fire place outside under cover Man cave. All this situated on a tree studded 5 areas. What a beautiful place to stay and fantastic hosts. Swim in the river just down the road or in their saltwater pool. Enjoy the peacefulness of this rural setting and still be close enough to visit the vineyards.
