Great place to sample traditional Scottish cuisine, friendly staff and nice cosy vibe. Would recommend booking in advance as is often quite busy and difficult to get a walk in table. Deep-Fried mars bar was a delight and one of the better ones we tried in Edinburgh. Haggis and Steak Pie also went down a treat.
Great breakfast! It was a Sunday morning before we were leaving Edinburgh. Nice music. I got the veggie breakfast fried eggs, veggie haggis, veggie sausage, grilled tomato, grilled portobello mushroom, toast/fry bread. Our server, Rob, was very friendly and the food was delicious! We even got some local history and chatted about stuff relative to where we live. Really cute spot, tasty, reasonably priced food and lovely atmosphere!!!
We popped in for a light bite one lunchtime as we wanted to try some haggis! We where so impressed we booked the next evening. It was stunning, each of the 3 courses where incredible, very tasty and fresh tasting. Highlights for me was the Balmoral chicken, seriously tasty. The Whisky sauce is amazing. The sticky toffee pudding is the best ive ever had. Good range of drinks and friendly staff 100% reccomend.
Great authentic Scottish place. Staff was very nice and friendly, food was really good, plenty of traditional pub food options. Would recommend the haggis tower or the pipers feast which is a sampler of many appetizers. Would come back, in fact, we are here twice in our stay.
I suggest reservations. Well stopped in earlier but didn't make reservations, but they were able to squeeze us in around 8. Service was cordial, food was fantastic, portions large, restrooms clean, prices reasonable. We stayed for live music and he had an enviable repertoire. One of my favorite stops!
Great local place for beers and something to eat light or not!. Perfect location in the city center, great people willing to help you and guide you and the dishes were amazing! The environment is also very appealing with all the barrels and the local decorations.
Can’t understand this pub’s reviews. We had the opposite experience. The steak was rubbery, the fish portion was tiny, the pie was way too hot to eat and was served in a piping hot cast iron pan, so it never became edible temperature, the vegetables were dry and tasteless as if they were simply microwaved, the staff were unenthusiastic, the place was half empty yet they told us on the phone it was full. I think this place is all about it’s PR, quality food or customer experience. Only saving grace is that the pints of beer albeit a bit pricey were tasty.
Great pub with a lovely atmosphere and wonderful food. I was visiting Edinburgh on my own and this place was so welcoming I didn't feel out of place. I had the Moving Munros burger which was one of the best vegan burgers I have ever had.
The fish cookery was brilliant. It was just flaking away. The steak pie was absolutely spot on, melting in the mouth. The drinks were ok. Good service.
Aug 2022 Stopped here for a meal before going to the castle, fantastic food and loads of it, had some live music at the front which was really good and as our Scottish friends were singing along, was obviously typically Scottish and we loved it. The food was excellent, with a good variety on the menu, good portion size as well, none of us are small and there was enough! Staff very helpful and polite. Would definitely visit again. Feb 2023 Yes we came back again, just myself and my husband this time, my advice is to book as it does get very busy in there, we went on a Tuesday evening, there was live music starting at around 9pm. The menu had lots of variety we had haggis, neeps and tatties and the fish supper, both were absolutely delicious cooked perfectly. For desert we had Highland mess and deep fried mars bar as my husband has always wanted to try this. Again delicious can't fault this place, good food, very helpful staff and good live music. If you are in the area try it out.
