Reviews
Hotel is great, food is bad.nnHotel - I stayed in a refurbished queen room - spacious and well decorated. Even had a couch. Everything was new. Only let down was the 'queen' bed was actually 2 singles pushed together. Was okay for the night but not overly comfortable. Given people mainly come to sleep I'd suggest getting an actual queen bed.nnPub - worst fish and chips ive ever had. I believe the fish was frozen not fresh as advertised. It had a very fishy odor, was very dry and overcooked. Only had a few bites. Small handful of store-bought type crinkle cut fries. Salad was small but okay. Way overpriced at $36. I ordered fried chicken as was still hungry - also bad. It was mainly batter and very chewy pieces of chicken thigh.nnChecked out at 10 for breakfast but was told it goes from 7-9am so not able to eat. Really odd because check out then having breakfast seems quite normal to me. Also, please put a light in the smoking area, its actually quite scary being out there without one given you're caged in.nnFriendly staff and plenty of parking across from hotel for guests.nnI would stay at the hotel again but would not eat there, plenty of other food options around.
Great location and nice old building with a lot of character.nEasy walk to shopping and dining options. Good selection in the hotel restaurant and bar. Good parking.nThe bathroom could have been a little better but good for an old building.nGood value and had a nice stay in Timaru.
Lovely old building with lots of period features. Spacious rooms, comfy bed all located in the heart of Timaru.nBreakfast down in the restaurant was delicious although they do close of breakfast service a bit too early
This hotel is very dated, it has spent a lot of money stabilizing the building and refreshing some of its rooms which look nice now. Unfortunately, they are not well laid out with very thin walls meaning that EVERY noise in the adjacent rooms is heard. I stayed on the second floor in the renovated rooms. The hotel guest next to my room came in at 12.30am with what sounded like takeaways. After their room door being slammed, shaking the wall/headboard which woke me up, I could hear the paper crinkling on the packaging.nThe restaurant attached is not really a suitable venue for a hotel it is more of a pub with gaming area and as female business traveler it is not inviting. You don't need anything fancy but a safer environment with less focus to gambling would be better. Cheap coin slot machines do not encourage family type local clientele or for an average tourist or business guest to stay and eat.nThe hotel has potential as Timaru is very limited in terms of good business and tourist travel properties, but it needs to assess what type of client it is trying to attract and what they might want in terms of service/amenities. Staff were nice but not really professional, needed a bit of training. This review is not meant to be offensive to the site, more to give feedback that hopefully the hotel will consider, as they really do have a large market opportunity to tap into if they are willing to stretch. Timaru is very underserved for good hotels and food.
We dined for lunch today, meals were fantastic.nSpecial mention has to go to Destiny duty manager she always provides exceptional customer service & has a wonderful personality.nHowever today she excelled as she was running solo & brought her A-game with her customers despite being incredibly busy!nThanks again Destiny nTriple 'S'
