I was an unlikely person to end up working with this medium, having cut myself on glass whilst still a toddler (and still bearing the scar on my hand to this day!) What I began as a hobby grew under tuition from a number of New Zealand craftsmen.
In 2015 a major fire damaged much of our house and it was then that I had the opportunity to work on the restoration of my 1920's character home's leadlights.
When I work on restoring a leadlight panel I feel a connection with the original artisan, usually long since dead, comparing and contrasting how I might have approached the piece they have produced. I feel both an honour and responsibility to be able to recreate their work for future generations to enjoy.
I also have fun with light catchers from time to time. I see to it that no one piece is exactly the same.
